I was under the belief that all dog shampoos are all pretty much the same. Well, I was definitely wrong about this one. First, it lathers up really well without having to use a lot. Second, it rinses off great. Third, the usual "wet dog" smell we have after our dogs get their baths is usually pretty bad, and with the Buddy Wash they hardly smelled like a wet dog at all. Fourth, their coats have never been shinier or puppy soft. Fifth and final, the smell of lavender and mint is wonderful! You won't be disappointed.

I am giving this product 2 stars (instead of 1) because it did a fine job and I liked the smell. If you are not very concerned about the ingredients in your dog shampoo, you may love this one. Unfortunately, I was looking for a natural shampoo for my dog, and since the ingredients list for this product was deceptive, I unknowingly bought it.

The list of ingredients on the bottle (and on the internet) is: Coconut shampoo base, aloe vera gel, essence of lavender, essence of mint, chamomile extract, sage extract, nettles extract, rosemary extract, wheat protein extract (natural deodorizing agent), tea tree oil, vitamin E, vitamin C.

I e-mailed the company and asked for the list of ingredients in the "coconut shampoo base" and received the following: deionized water, cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), aloe extract, glycerin.

On the Skin Deep Database (you can Google that) cocamidopropyl betaine has a hazard score of 5 (out of 10, with 10 being the most hazardous). The database says "Cocamidopropyl betaine is a synthetic surfactant; it has been associated with irritation and allergic contact dermatitis, reactions that could be due to the ingredient itself or to impurities present in it, such as 3-dimethylaminopropylamine."

While this hazard score is determined based on humans, it's my hands that are washing my dog, and also my children's hands which are all over him afterward. I do not consider this product to be natural or healthy, and not listing all of the ingredients on the label seems to me deceptive on the part of Cloud Star.

There are a few reasons why I will now only use Buddy Wash on my best friend.

1. Coconut-base. This coconut based shampoo and conditioner in one does a great job getting rid of the dirt and grime out of your pet's fur. The base is gentle on your hands, and it's safe for humans. You can even use is as your shampoo or body wash if you like.

2. Provides maximum huggability. I've used other shampoo and conditioner in ones before, but nothing has came even close to the softness this creates on my dog's coat. Seriously, after she's dried from her bath, the family will hug her for hours on end. Yes, it's that soft. I often get comments from people that pet my dog, "She's so soft, did she just have a bath?" The answer is usually that she had a bath three weeks or so ago.

3. Smells divine. I really love the lavender and mint, and the love the rosemary and mint is very nice too. If your dog is male, he might prefer the rosemary as opposed to lavender, or he might not. The rosemary and mint smell fades quickly after the first couple of days. The lavender and mint one smells for a couple of weeks or until my dog decides that she wants to smell like dead squirrel by rolling around in exactly that--dead squirrel.

So this is definately the shampoo for Fido. Now you just have to decide which scent would he prefer.

Until I used this product, my dogs always smelled like "wet dogs." All the other shampoos I have tried just did not make my dogs smell good. This product, along with the conditioner, is great!

I loved buddy wash when it was just the bottle of shampoo and bottle of condition separate. Since they combined it into one bottle it just doesn't do the job. My dogs hair seems flat and not fluffy like it was before when I used the products individually. If you have a dog with fluffy hair and want it to look good I would recommend getting the individual bottles instead of it combined into one.

I am a dog groomer and I have used many products on my clients. Since trying Buddy Wash I have never looked back. I use this on all my dogs even over the whitening shampoos and in place of the oatmeal for the sensitive types. My clients owners rave about the smell of their dogs and always ask what shampoo I use. This shampoo + conditioner works wonders on a stinky dog. I take the dog into the shower, get her all wet then liberally apply the shampoo/conditioner and let it sit for a couple of minutes (if she allows it) and then rinse it out and depending on how bad she smells I might repeat the process. This also keeps the dog smelling great for usually about a week afterwards unless she gets into something outside.

I bathe my 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with this shampoo weekly and it's never dried out their skin. I also use this brand of conditioner on their ears for added silkiness. The shampoo scent is mild but pleasant and long lasting. The shampoo cleans quite well with one lathering; unlike many other dog shampoos I've used over the years. The built in conditioner gives a soft feel to the hair and promotes tangle-free hair without adding any greasiness to the feel of the coat. My hands dry out easily, especially in the winter, and this shampoo is easy on my skin. My fingers no longer crack after bathing them. This is a consistently high quality product - been using it for years.
