I just painted my car with Rust-Oleum 210849 Hammered Copper Paint. Great stuff!!! Of course painting a car is all about the prep work, and let me tell you, my car needed a LOT of prep work. I spent a couple of weeks using Bondo to fill all the holes (almost 2 quarts), then sanding it all down.

My 37 year old Toyota Corolla station wagon had lots of rust spots too, so I sanded those down, not to bare metal, but almost there. The day of the painting, I started by wiping the whole car down with mineral spirits. Then I got the car all taped up with Blue Tape and masking paper, that took about 5 hours (I was painting the wheels too).

I was really curious as to whether the paint would actually cover all the rust spots without using primer first. I bought 8 cans of the paint and ended up getting about 1 coat per can.

By the way, if you're going to try to paint your car with canned spray paint (or use a lot of cans for any project), do yourself a favor (like I did) and buy the Rustoleum Comfort Grip. It's just a little plastic handle thing that fits over the top of the can and has a lever that you squeeze to activate the nozzle. It's definitely worth a few dollars for how easy it makes using spray cans.

So,how did the paint do? It looks great. I used 7 cans, light coats each time, and it slowly but surely built up to a very nice looking finish. I didn't have any problems with clogging, and was able to use each can fully. I'll try to add some before and after photos. It really did cover the rust spots. It might have looked better with a coat of primer, but hey, I was just trying to get it to look better, and it does.

Just for your info, the Rustoleum Silver wheel paint looks exceptional too. Just be sure and use very light coats and build it up. It took less than one can for 4 wheels and I put on 6 coats.

I use this product on steel items dipped in phosphoric acid. Spraying on without primer results in an impressively tough finish.

What makes this finish so tough is that you can lay it on thick - even to the point of running - and it will dry hard as a rock.

Other spray paints, when applied too thickly, will never dry.

-----------
Note: Some people have written in their review that the paint does not leave a hammered finish. You MUST spray multiple coats and lay the paint on thickly otherwise it will not leave a hammered finish. If you spray the paint on too lightly to try and save paint, the finish will be the color you expect, but NOT a hammered finish.

Bought several cans and refinished my cabinet hardware in my kitchen. Went from dingy gold to classy copper in minutes! Went through the house, took the faceplates off the walls and did all of those too. MUCH cheaper than buying new faceplates and gave the house a fresh, updated look. I bought my cans at Home Depot for about half the cost that they're listed for online. Look was very accurate to how the top of the can looks. VERY pleased with the product and will buy this brand again when looking for great, inexpensive upgrades :)

The directions for use arent good enough. if you just paint to cover your item, the paint will cover it and it will be metallic. but to get the hammered finish you must really give it a good covering and be careful not to over paint because then it will puddle. the good news is that if it does run, you can blot it and respray it. i used one entire can to paint a very small side table (very small). i did "paint" it twice before i realized that you really had to give it a heavy spraying to get the hammered finish. alas, i have the hammered finish and it looks great!!

This works great but you need to put it on thick to make the classic hammered look. I had a few runs due to that but overall it does a nice job and seems durable. I have not chipped it. The can covers a surprising amount. I had two aluminum panniers for my motorcycle and it did them both and I had a bit left for future touchup.

I had some very dated, brass and faux-wood ceiling fans that came with my house when I bought it. Ugly, tacky, and since there were 3 of them, expensive to replace. I decided to give this a try. I took the blades off and taped off the ceiling, sprayed all of the metal parts in a dark grey, then did the blades in a regular(non-hammered) taupe color. They look awesome!! I love love love this paint!!
I can think of so many other uses for this stuff!

I got a cheap, white, plastic umbrella base on clearance for $2 at family dollar but I wanted it to match the metal on my table so I tried this stuff and it came out looking better than I could have ever imagined.

The textured surface of this product is a real plus. With regular spray paint, the smallest bit of roughness in the prepainted surface is magnified when the paint is applied. While this paint does not hide significant surface roughness, it is much more forgiving in terms of show through.

Regular spray paint runs so much more easily than this product. If you are careless and spray too thick, this paint will run too, however, it is much more forgiving with regards to running than regular spray paint.

Covers well. I use two coats, first coat to get a thin coat of paint on the entire surface and the second to provide even coverage and give the full hammered effect. Keep in mind, if you recoat, as I always do, follow the instructions on the can. If you wait too long between coats, the coat(s) laid down first will wrinkle/roughen/lift.
I have used it successfully on wood, pvc and acrylic.

Love this stuff! I have used the other hammered finish colors Rustoleum offers with similar results.
