The description lists: “For most automotive and light truck applications”, I beg to differ. I used these on a 2013 Silverado Z71 ½ ton pickup truck. The threaded rods were deflecting with the springs only about 75% compressed. I ordered a second set to complete the job. It doesn’t appear a single set alone would work on my old F150 either.
The spring compressor itself appears to very well made and I think it would work well on cars and compact trucks. I am giving them 5 stars for the product, 1 star for the liberal use of the word “most”.

Style Name: Limited Access Strut Spring Compressor Verified Purchase
Some of the other reviews have criticized this product because it has two lips instead of just one on each end and when they used it, they only had one lip in contact on each end. IMO they are using it wrong. Single lip compressors (more common type) should have the bolt parallel to the spring. However, I rotated the Spring Compressor slightly (perhaps 10 degrees) so that both lips made contact with the spring at end eand, with the heads of the bolts being 180 degrees apart and the bottoms also being 180 degrees apart. This will look like they are slightly twisted from the top, but in the same direction. The springs compressed just fine and stayed in alignment. I had to use wrenches to turn the bolts to get them off the car. Once the spring is off the car, I used a small impact wrench with 1/2" drive to loosen the compressors, alternating each side about every half inch. I then used the impact wrench to compress the new springs, again 1/2 inch at a time. If you try to use a wrench to compress the new spring, you will find it very hard to hold onto the spring while tightening the compressors. Look at the bottom of the spring to see how it fits into the bottom holder and make sure you have the new spring aligned the same when you compress it. The spring has to be aligned in a particular way to fit the bottom pad and the compressors have to be aligned in a certain way to provide clearance for wrenches. I write all this because I think this is a good product that some of the other comments have downgraded because they didn't use it properly.

Works great. Ive used several times on my new beetles. A bit awkwardly sized to fit fully in the tight spaces, but any version seems to be according to forums.Locking pins are effective and necessary. I bought several high strength nuts of the correct size so I could use them upside down while still tightening them. It allows them to fit in some places they wouldn't otherwise.

Used it on a 3500 front coil spring, it worked perfect. Defently put the tool to a max test.I used a hydrolic jack to compress spring so i did not have to use wtench/socket. Not going to lie I was a little scared but this tool held up great. Still Alice to write this so must of been made good.. Buy it!!!!

Worked fine on changing the struts on my 97 RAV4. It has tapered springs with few coils, and thus are VERY challenging to deal with. While these compressors were not perfect, I was able to get them to work after figuring out the best way to grab the springs. Short of spending several hundred dollars these got the job done.

Awesome!
I almost didn't buy this b/c I couldn't tell how 'heavy' they were and if they would be able to get the job done safely.
Boy was I wrong.
These are awesome! They fit snugly on the spring and then the pins push over the spring to lock into place.
Completely safe and heavy duty.
The only thing I wish was different is that both ends of the all thread were 'capped' so that a wrench could fit on either end.

Very sturdy spring compressor for the price. Had no issues of threads binding up though I did lube them before use. This is a life saver if you are unable to use external spring compressors. If you do much suspension work, this tool is a nice addition to your tool collection.
