Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The winter adventures of an errant young Irish duck who loses track of his family on their annual southbound flight make for a charming tale voiced in accents from the British Isles with appealing animation reminiscent of the Little Bear series. If our hero Sean were human, he would probably be diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. But he's fowl, so his mother (Carol Kane) makes her own diagnosis: he's "a duck running amok." So it's no surprise when he strays from the family formation and gets knocked back to earth to face winter alone. He is ably tutored by a good-natured, riverdancing vole (Tim Curry) who imparts some handy survival wisdom before he hibernates. The last 10 minutes of this 27-minute story are crammed with a series of short-lived perils involving a storm, a fox, and Sean's inability to find his parents as the ducks return in the spring. It all ends well, but very young and/or sensitive children may have a few anxious moments along the way. --Kimberly Heinrichs

5.0 out of 5 stars Great video the kids love it!, April 2, 2000
By A Customer
I think this is a great movie for kids. My four-year old and especially my two-year old just love the little duck. They know the meaning of separation and friendship. They just ejoy seeing all the animals, the singing, and dancing. Hope to see it on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb gentle story, December 13, 1999
My 3-year-old grandson and I have new favorites in Sean, Puffy, and Voley. The lessons learned by the little duck are good and sincere...Voley was a master teacher. The first time, I was apprehensive regarding a child's reaction to the hungry fox and the separation of Sean from his parents. However, now that we know the happy ending, the film provides a repeated happy experience each time we watch it. I am giving it as a gift to share with other children at Christmas. The humorous reference to "Riverdance" is a great touch. I hope I can find other films by the same director/writer.

3.0 out of 5 stars MIxed feelings, January 21, 2000
By A Customer
I really liked the beautiful animation of this video and the key characters are quite endearing. The irish accents and "river dancing" sequences are charming. However, I found the story to be a bit too dark and anxious. Sean, the main character, has to face being separated from his parents, the near death of his friends, surviving a harsh winter, and more than one close call from a sinister fox all in the course of 25 minutes! If your little one is sensitive or highly imaginitive, this is definitely a video you need to watch with your child just to keep the anxiety level down. We'll definitely get our money's worth from this purchase but this video probably won't get the steady use that some of our favorites receive. We'll be sticking to gentler fare at our house...Little Bear, Kipper, and Spot.

The description of this DVD claims that it is the ORIGINAL English version of the recording. In fact, the voices have been dubbed in with American actors.
I am not impressed.
