I contacted the makers of the Libby canned 100% pure pumpkin because their product is inedible in my opinion. I had used it for years with no problem, but lately the amount of sand, grit, who knows what else, is ridiculous. I didn't realize that this has been a known problem with this product and am surprised they haven't corrected it. The response from the company was to send me coupons to replace the canned pumpkin, but I will never use this brand again. The coupons don't reimburse me for all the other ingredients and time that went into making the pumpkin bread that had to go in the trash. Save your money, and your teeth and don't buy this for you or, god forbid, a baby to eat. Yuk.

We purchased a 15oz can of Libby's Pumpkin from the grocery store right before Thanksgiving (2012) to use in a Pumpkin Pie. The pie tasted fine, but every bite was full of sandy grit (the grit was hard like broken up glass). We don't enjoy eating sand and had to throw away the pie. I see that we're not the only ones that are complaining about this. We've never had this issue with pumpkin mix before. What an embarrassment it would have been if we had served it to guests.

I've used Libby's pumpkin for years with no problem but, this year, I've purchased Libby's brand from different stores at different times of the year and have been getting the same sand-like result in my baked goods. Almost tastes like egg shells in every couple bites but I don't cook with eggs anymore and I'd stop cooking if I started dropping that many egg shells in one loaf of bread. I was embarrassed that I gave a loaf of bread away to a friend--Libby's should stop selling pumpkin until they can figure this out. There is no grit when I bake a pumpkin and make my own puree. I won't buy this brand again.

Like other reviewers, I encountered sand or other gritty material in the product but not before serving the pumpkin cheesecake I made with it to coworkers. It's embarrassing. I pride myself in being a pretty good cook.

I did not buy the tainted pumpkin from Amazon, and a second can from a different store (I would have used a different brand if I could have found one. This was a presumably different lot) was OK. I highly recommend you taste a couple of plain spoonfuls before mixing potentially sandy pumpkin into your other good ingredients.

Just made a pie and it's filled with "sand" or grit. Just happened to Google it and found out it's happened to others. This is the second time this has happened to me using Libby's pumpkin.

I used this product to make a pumpkin bread and had to throw the entire thing out because of the copious amounts of sand in this product. How is it legal to sell a food product loaded with sand? Thank God I didn't make the bread to serve to anyone other than my family. I will NEVER purchase a Libby product again. I can only guess what else makes it into these cans.

Just threw away 3 loaves of pumpkin bread that were gritty with sand. I checked on the internet and found others with the same complaint. What a waste!

I complained about the sand or dirt in the Libby's canned pumpkin about 2 years ago and then it just disappeared off the shelves right at the holidays. When it came back it was perfect. However, this year October 2013 I got bits of the sand again. I am so embarrassed to know I gave away eight loaves of pumpkin bread to friends and co workers yesterday. If Libby's could fix this problem they would have an awesome product. I will throw away the two cans I just bought because it hurts to eat it. I feel like I am going to crack a tooth. I am really mad to know that they must not be cleaning their pumpkins appropriately before making their product. Shame on them! This company has a serious problem in their factory.
