This is a beautifully produced series that helps relieve stress and activate your energy. Greg Twombly of CIA Productions produced the series. The set is very pretty, warmed with lighted candles throughout. Melinda Lee, a certified yoga instructor, leads both workouts.

Simply Spoga is the gentler version of the two. It contains three different segments, 10 minutes each, so if you are short on time do as many as you'd like in the time you have.

Section 1 begins in a seated position. A breathing meditation relaxes and energizes you all at the same time. This section prepares you for section 2. Following the meditation is a wonderful seated twist/side bend to both sides of the body. Then using a towel for assistance, Melinda does some wonderful stretches. A shoulder release, seated hamstring stretch and a move called the "butterfly" all use the towel to effectively stretch the muscles. The butterfly stretch also releases the groin area and activates your energy stores. Cat stretch and upward dog pose end this section which brings you to the standing grounding exercise. The grounding exercise helps align posture.

Section 2 begins the 5 Spoga's, the 5 basic moves Melinda uses in her series to slow you down while moving your body. Twirling moves (I found myself getting dizzy the first couple of times I did this move so I followed the modifier) followed by hands to small of back & your head moves slowly up and down to elongate/stretch your neck. A move called "calm sea" follows this. (you are on your back, palms up, and you breathe in deep and sigh) Rising Tide is a move that works your abdominal muscles where your head and knees come up rhythmically together.

I am pleased with this DVD, as it takes a different approach than most "Yoga" DVDs. I especially like the integration of guided meditation with the yoga segments. Another great feature is being able to do just one segment at a time, in any order. I am a plus-sized woman, and there are three various levels to follow, whichever is most comfortable. This DVD is not intimidating like others can be and I recommend it to anyone looking for a slightly new approach to yoga and relaxation.

Dr. Ruble wrote a great review. This is best for light days when you're feeling sluggish or tired or those who are starting to workout or stretch for the first time. The pace is very relaxed & slow. The stage is nice with 3 women demonstrating & one doing modifcations or showing you when to stop & rest in between. Melinda is very positive & calm throughout w/great endurance/flexibility throughout the workout. The music is light & nice, not annoying.
This starts with a 1 min intro & a 5 min seated mediation.
Next is basic stretching while seated of the spine (basic twist), side stretch, 1 leg forward & then butterly for 5 min.
Next is hands/knees for cat/cow stretching, downward dog, standing shoulder shrugs, standing short rest, the twirling (like you did as a kid), short standing rest, shoulder shrugs & small barward stretch while standing to open chest with head tucked into chest & then to sky, back & forth.
At the 16 min mark you lay on your back for a short rest & then do abdominal leg lifts/crunch for a min, then bridge pose for working the back/butt up/down slowly for one min, then a short rest, then child's pose for more resting & stretch arms, then upward dog/child pose back/forth for little over 2 min & now you're at the 23 min mark.
Last is the 7 min laying down guided mediation w/clouds.
I did feel better after, a little more energy & much more positive after.
Add a star if you are looking for positive relaxing light yet energizing workout for your mind as well as your body.
