Like other reviewers, I got this cat food when the vet recommended switching my 12YO cat to prescription kidney health food b/c her lab work showed possible early stages of kidney failure. I found a comparison of phosphorous levels in various prescription and nonprescription cat foods and saw this had one of the lowest levels of phosphorous of the non-Rx food.
After 6 months on this food, her lab results came back normal for kidney function - her vet was happy and so am I.

And, my cat loves it - she even put a couple teeth marks in a new bag when I was unloading the groceries.

My aged cat has a very sensitive stomach and she cannot eat most cat foods available. However, she has absoloutely no problems with this. Not once in all the months i've been feeding her this has she ever vomited in any way. Not to mention she's acting healthier and seems stronger on this brand.

And she easily eats this dry without having to add any wet food to make it palatable. She clearly likes the taste.

All in all I highly recommend this to anyone with a senior cat.

I have always fed my 17 year old cat high quality food. A year and a half ago, she was diagnosed with renal failure. I began to feed her a special prescription diet, but she hated it. She's only 8 pounds and she lost a pound on the prescription diet because she refused to eat it most of the time. I did a ton of research and finally, reluctantly, settled on this food because the phosphorus and protein levels are about as close as I'm going to get to the prescription food. Over the past year and a half, her blood tests have come back stable, she has an amazing amount of energy for a 17 year old cat, and she doesn't overeat the food. Overall I'm satisfied, because at 17 years old, I'm more concerned with her quality of life for the few years she has left. If she didn't have renal failure, I likely wouldn't be feeding her this food, only because of the unnecessary fillers it contains.

I don't know why Science Diet is being referred to as junk food, as it is one of the higher quality foods on the market. A lot of the new organic and natural cat foods are not as healthy for pets as they are cracked up to be. But regardless, my veterinarian wanted me to put my 2 year old cat on a prescription food because of the high count of crystals in her urine. After some comparisons, Science Diet Mature Adult active longevity is the closest to the prescription food. Both my cats, the younger one and the older (10) are on this food and they seem to enjoy it. They both graze all day and are indoor cats so i try my best not to overfeed them. My younger cat has not had issues with her urine since she went on this food and we are all happy :)

After lots of research I switched cat foods brands. My cat is a larger breed, 6 year old cat. I've noticed a huge improvement in his over all energy, coat and mood. I am confident that this will be the brand/formula that I keep him on for many years to come. He just seems to have that extra pep in his step. ^_^

The best part is, the cost of the 17.5 LB pound on amazon + free prime shipping saves me a ton of money. It's way more expensive in the pet store.

I currently have several cats ranging from a few months to 13 years and this is one of the dry foods that I feed them. I also mix it with Hill's Science Diet Mature Adult Hairball Control Dry Cat Food, 15.5-Pound Bag and Hill's Science Diet Adult Indoor Dry Cat Food, 15.5-Pound Bag. But their primary diet is moist food.

While the old style of thinking was that moist food was bad for cats, the new thinking is that dry food is contributing dramatically to chronic renal failure in cats (the number one cause of illness in domestic cats). So while I buy science diet (the three types mentioned) and provide it to my cats on a free-feed basis, they primarily eat moist food so they are getting something closer to what they would eat in the wild -- almost pure protein and lots of moisture.

I recommend Science Diet as it is one of the better dry foods for cats, but not as a primary diet if you can help it. They really need moist food to help their kidneys function correctly.

Amazon is probably the lowest price you'll find for this -- if you get it delivered on a regular basis (I do every 2 months) and hit the 20% discount for ordering enough on subscribe and save. And it's nice to have it delivered right to the house.

I got this mainly for my cat with CKD because it is low phosphorus and low sodium. I needed something I could let out for all my cats to eat when I wasn't home to feed them their canned food. The ingredients aren't the best, but for a low phosphorus dry food it is good for occasional feeding, and it's much better than the prescription dry foods and much less expensive. My cats took to this OK but not as well as other Hill's Science Diet foods. But again, it is low phosphorus and low sodium so I'm just happy they tolerate it.

I'm an old cat. I live with my "brother" with a family of humans that includes two rather annoying children. I don't much care for most dry food. To be honest, I prefer Salmon. But times are lean and with those kids running around it's hard to get any attention, much less good attention. I suppose I shouldn't complain, though. I'd almost forgotten what "wet food" tasted like and then we moved to this house with a big back yard and all summer I've been catchin' shrews and mice. Once I caught four in one day! But there are rainy days and I suppose winter is coming so this stuff will serve to keep me fed until ... well ... until either the snowman goes or I do.
