Product Description

Product Description

DSX5500's Satellite Audio/Video Interface (SAVI) acts as a control hub for all of your home theater components. Its Pay Per View EZ Search enables you to conveniently and quickly view all of your PPV options, alphabetically, with the touch of a single button on the remote control. The Advanced Program Guide (APG) allows users to see up to 31/2 days of programming that can be searched by actor, director, title and category. DSX5500 features Picture-In-Guide so you never miss your favorite program while searching the guide. Its caller ID allows users to view incoming caller information right on their TV screen. The compact design of the DSX5500 provides a slimmer chassis with the same classic footprint as standard A/V equipment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable Junk!, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Philips DSX5500 - Satellite TV receiver - DIRECTV (Electronics)
I got three of these receivers a little over a year ago as part of a Directv package. One failed within 9 months - menus would no longer appear. The other two would lock up and have to go through a 5 minute system reset every couple of days. I have since replaced them with Samsung s300w's.

If you own a Seires2 TiVo DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT buy this receiver.Even though Phillips Electronics makes the DSX5500 and Tivo they are NOT compatible. The IR blaster will NEVER work properly with this unit.
3 thumbs down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pick something else, March 5, 2005

I had a Sony receiver but after 8 years it went out and couldn't be replaced. This model is slow, has a very poor picture - red's bleed. My Sony didn't have this problem! I called Philips about it - not helpful at all. Am seriously considering throwing it out for another model and calling it an expensive lessons learned!
