WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!!!, December 13, 2005
A complete and utter waste of money, the Rival BD275 double burner hot plate worked exactly half of one time.
I bought this because we were remodeling our home and we needed something to cook on in the temporary kitchen the contractor set up for us. Thinking a double burner hot plate would be a good and inexpensive solution for our "kitchen", I ordered this from Amazon who promptly delivered it a couple of days later. I plugged it in and waited and waited and waited for an interminable amount of time while the unit heated up. I couldn't tell if the unit was on because the light indicating power to the burner wasn't working, but I felt some heat rising from the element so, no big deal. Anyway, after about 15 minutes it got to a medium warm temperature, despite the fact that I had it set to high, and I started to cook my kids some eggs. I made it through two of the boys breakfasts when the unit shut down and wouldn't start up again.
The long and short of it: don't buy this piece of junk. It's not worth the bandwidth or even postage to send it back to Amazon for a refund. Rival should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of quality control in their products. Get a clue, Rival!!

One Star just because it is attractive., January 31, 2007
I got this baby home and plugged it in. The indicator light for the smaller burner did not light up. It was apparently broken out of the box. The temperature control knobs are almost as if they are on a child's cooktop. There is no definitive "click" for off, so I would be worried that it gets bumped "on".
But still I loved the look of it, so I tried to cook with it. It took 24 minutes to bring about 2.5 quarts of water to a boil, and this was in a highly conductive copper pot. Guess what? It's going back.
And an interesting side point, the Rival website doesn't list this as one of their products. My guess is that it was discontinued because it was engineered so poorly.

Very adequate double burner., March 8, 2007
I am an archaeologist who works out of the home most of the time and lives in hotels six months out of the year. To save money, I do a lot of cooking in my hotel room.
I picked up this rival electric double burner, and could not be more pleased with it. I've been using it since September of 2006 with no complaints. It is relatively inexpensive, has no open coil from which to start accidental fires, heats up quickly and reliably, and is like having a mini-kitchen in my home away from home.
Back home, it has come in handy during Thanksgiving and Christmas, as an extra two dishes can be cooked on it, or just used to keep things warm.
It is a sturdy unit as well, and has survived the rigors of being moved from hotel to hotel, jounced around a bit in the process, and taken out and put away every day.
My only complaint is the short cord, it is less than 1 foot long. I would give this five stars if it had a longer cord.
Still, all in all, the Rival Electric double burner is great.
