Unlike most slip joints, these have two straight edges that come to a point, giving them a slight needle nose. This feature is very useful for working on computers. For example: when I need something a little more robust than standard needle nose pliers, I use these. Even though they thinner than most, they still grab and hold very securely. Although if you plan on doing heavy work, get a bigger size obviously. I have old and new Channellock pliers and they seem to hold their integrity. Great purchase in the end.

I bought the Channellock No. 516 pliers new and have them in front of me as I type. They are unpleasant to use because when the slip joint feature is positioned in the small opening position, the pliers bind when opened wide. The pliers are still functional, but for a tool that I use frequently, this small annoyance becomes a significant aggravation that I never have with my several other pliers, mostly of different sizes or jaw widths. Since the pivot pin is non-adjustable, there is little that I can do to improve the situation. Lubrication has not helped nor has repeated usage of the pliers. As with many small tool buyers I no longer have the sales slip and thus have effectively lost my admittedly small investment in what I had hoped would be my best pliers.

I have many Channellock pliers and the quality has been great on all of them. These slip joints (516's) have a thinner nose and it makes it easier to get into places that you couldn't with the standard slip joints. I find my self reaching for these first if I need a slip joint.
They are made in the U.S. and the quality is leaps and bounds above the Far East imports I've seen that inhabit most mega marts and DIY centers.
