As far as the gravel goes, it is a nice product (good quality, color, etc). However, I've never weighed a pound of gravel before, so wasn't sure how much I was getting. I only have a small 6 gallon aquarium, so I knew I wouldn't need much, but boy was I in for a surprise. 1 lb of this is about 1.5 fists full for me.... just in case any shoppers out there aren't sure what to expect. I got 3 bags of this... which was no-where near enough. On top of that, the price (which seemed great at the time) is way over what is reasonable for the product. I wound up going to my local PetSmart to get more gravel and found the same brand in a 5 lb bag for only $1 more than I paid here for a single bag. Needless to say - not a great experience. Some of you readers may think that it is my fault for not knowing how much 1 pound of gravel is. Well... sure. I wasn't prepared in that regard. However, the price is way out of line with the going price for gravel. I'm not sure why its so expensive here, when pet stores tend to be far more costly than what I find on Amazon. However, look at your local stores first before clicking "place order".

Great, quality product. I have a 5 gallon octagon tank and only bought 1 bag of this gravel, not nearly enough. I think you should get 1 bag per gallon. Holds it's color well too. Definately recommend.

Gravel is gravel! Great for my betta bowl; def a bit on the smaller side (there isn't a lot in the bag), but it's only a pound. You could err on the side of getting two if having a good amount of substrate is important to you. Since this was just for my haunted fishbowl (so just seasonal; will just have it in my bowl for a month), I'm happy with it since I'll be putting my betta's old substrate back in after the holidays. If this was my permanent substrate though, I'd def err on the side of getting 2-3 bags for a 1-2 gallon bowl. : D

I have these rocks im my sons room holding bamboo to keep up with the color scheme in his room and they look great just be sure to rinse them before use. this product is better than some due to the color on the rocks will hold up better and not chip as early as most tank rocks will. I recommend over others for sure we've had these in tanks in the past too.

I bought two bags of these gravel in two different colors, blue and lime. When I opened the bags to rinse the gravel, I was really pleased with their quality. Probably the best gravel I've ever used. There was no dust, dirt or broken bits in the bag. Each piece is large in size, so it's a nice choice for aquariums that might be having issues with gravel that slips through filters on pumps and such. It's very clean, and looks really good in my fish's bowl. However the lime color is not green at all. It doesn't even resemble green, no matter what light I look at it in. It's a light yellow color. The best way I can describe it, would be to call it a pale neon yellow. The blue gravel I ordered in addition to the lime, was true to color. Sort of a deep royal blue color.

I have a beta in a fish bowl that looks to be a little bit more than a half-gallon in size, and one bag would have been enough for me to order. But since I wanted to mix the colors, I used half of the contents of two bags. So I would guess you probably need between 1/2 to 1 bag for every half gallon your tank/bowl is. Using the equivalent of one bag of gravel in my half-gallon fish bowl, it sits about 1.5 inches deep at it's deepest point. So if you like your gravel a bit shallower, you would probably use about 1 bag per gallon. Great choice for small bowls and tanks, but those with larger set-ups may want to check and see if this is offered in a larger 5 pound size instead.

I ordered the blue gravel at two different times and ended up with two completely different blue colors. The first order was mid September of this year, and the gravel was a deep dark blue. It was really pretty and I loved the way it looked in the tank. I finally got around to ordering more to fill the tank and ordered a couple more bags of blue. The blue that came this week is a bright aqua blue, no where near the dark blue that I first received and no where near the color on the product image. Outside of that, the gravel that I put in the tank in September still looks great and I would buy this again, but am bummed that different colors of blue were received without knowing that there would be that much of a variation (added a product image to show the difference in blues).

Very pretty & I love the burgundy color (at first). Unfortunately everytime I wash the gravel while cleaning the tank, pieces of the gravel breaks, revealing spots of bright white where the burgundy parts had chipped off. I don't think I'm like a ferocious gravel washer - I just put it in a colander, run water over it, and gently move the gravel around. The chipped parts are getting more and more noticeable in the tank, as I continue to clean the gravel periodically - it doesn't look as pretty as it did the first time I put it in. I'm worried that my fish & frogs might see a small chipped part and mistake it for food and eat it. I think I'll be looking for something to replace it very soon.
