I have a small plastic tank around 3 gallons and it keeps it about 3 degrees warmer than the house. The directions tell you if you have a plastic tank to stick it on the side as opposed to underneath. My reccomendation if you are going to put it on the side is to position it more toward the bottom of the tank. I stuck mine towards the top and I think a lot of the heat escapes. Overall its a good investment especially if you live in the north east.

This heater attaches under the tank and keeps the area of the tank warm so that your Crabs don't get to cold. You can feel the heat come up through the sand and uses very little electricity.

Put the heater pad under our 10 gallon glass aquarium/terrarium and it works perfectly. Keeps the tank in the mid-80's just like it says, and because it applies on the bottom, under the tank you can't even see it.

I've had this for a long while and the heat doesn't travel through sand as well as I hoped, so if you put in on the bottom you'll see you crabs digging to get to the warmth. I have mine on the side for those that like to dig and those that like to stay above and enjoy the rest of the crabitat.

I have 2 of these under a 20 gallon long tank. Keeps the tank about 10 degrees warmer than I keep my house (I prefer it cold so I keep my house below 70 all year) and this makes my hermit crabs happy. I havent had any problems with them yet

The heater works fine. It puts out a small amount of heat just enough to raise the temp in the hermit crab cage a few degrees above room temp. Works well on plastic type of crab cage.

i got these to put on my leopard geckos travel tanks. we went out of town and i couldn't bring their permanent enclosures as there wasn't enough room in the car. these are less than the reptile variant, but they are exactly the same. i had the reptile one, in the same size even (when my leos were in smaller enclosures when they were little) and it is exactly the same. my one complaint is that you can't take these off and move them much or when you clean your enclosures as they will start falling off. hence the reason i couldn't just use the old ones i had from before. so as long as it stays put it's great

Apparently, I have to return this. Though the product description here on Amazon says it's ok for plastic habitats, the instructions on the actual device warn strongly against using it on plastic. This is so annoying! The description on the site should be updated/clarified.
