I have three Roborovski hamsters, and any Robo owner will tell you that they love sand! Hamsters, like Chinchillas, should never get water baths, they take sand baths to keep their coats clean. If you have a greasy hamster, give them sand instead of soap and watch them roll in it.

This stuff does work for coat maintenance, and hamsters seem to enjoy it. However this is a dust, not a sand, so they do sometimes sneeze, and breathing the particles can cause respiratory issues. Plus, it is easily tossed around and makes a big mess.

Personally I prefer ReptiSand by ZooMed, which is more expensive up front but is a larger bag so is cheaper on a per-pound basis, and also has a better consistency.

I was hesitant to try this because I had owned my robo for a year and she had never used one before but she loves it. She digs and rolls around in it. I leave it in her cage for a week and then clean it out. She doesn't use it for a bathroom and I don't think she would really appreciate it for only ten minutes.
She was really starting to look greasy before I got this but now she looks sooooooo soft. :)

This review is of Super Pet Critter Bath Powder, 14-oz. box. It's great stuff! Until recently we had used a chinchilla bath powder based on diatomaceous earth, and it worked, but this is better. The product is not perfumed and has no noticeable smell. It's based on pumice ("100 percent natural volcanic pumice," says the box) and is grainier but lighter. Our two gerbils both crowded into the little baking dish we use for bathing -- behavior we had never noticed before -- and climbed in and out repeatedly with LOTS of movement inside the dish. Eventually they got so comfortable they'd have gone to sleep inside the dish if we had let them! They got really clean and we have a new favorite product for their bathing. I think, though, we will not provide a daily bath with Super Pet Critter Bath Powder as the manufacturer suggests; they are used to once a week or so.

This is a MUST have for any small animal that should keep his/her coat clean and dry (ie hamsters... especially dwarf). Whereas before the purchase of this bath powder, the little guys really didn't smell too pleasing... afterwards they are clean and sweet smelling. As most hamster owners know, getting a hamster WET means probably a cold and possibly death... Unlike many Youtube videos (all done by CHILDREN, by the way) would have you think... THIS is the solution to a smelly little one! love it!

The order came on time and in good condition. My 2 gerbils really enjoy taking dust baths in this stuff and they definately look soft and shiny when their done. They do occasionally knock some dust out of their "bath" but i put a tissue under it so all I have to do is pick that up and it doesn't leave dust in their cage.

She didnt really like it, she just kicked it everywhere and she would leave the dust alone for a bit, but her coat was beautifully fluffy and cleaned coat and brought back her cute fluffy coat which I enjoy seeing her so cute! But she really didnt like it or just had no interest in this dust.

Our hamster uses this as a litter box instead of dusting himself off with it. It is too expensive to use for that purpose, so we put a small bowl filled with cat litter in his cage and he LOVES it. I will try putting the dusting powder in next to his litter box bathroom to see if he will dust himself off with it.
