Product Description

Product Description

The Contour RollerMouse is an innovative option to a computer mouse and a remarkably simple solution to implement in your enterprise. This advanced input device, designed to eliminate repetitive keyboard-to-mouse movements, occupies less space than a wrist rest. Its ergonomic design places cursor control just below the spacebar of any keyboard, making data entry faster, safer, and more comfortable for right- or left-handed computer users. Slide, roll and click in one action - superior to trackballs and touchpads.Auxiliary PS/2 port allows the use of an additional input device, such as Perfit Mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice, May 16, 2008
By Jay Armstrong (Ashland, OR United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've used this a bit at a client's house. It's easy to pick up, avoids the awkward angle of a regular mouse and is pretty easy to work with. As I recall, there's a switch on the bottom that let's you toggle between 3 & 5 button modes. We are finally replacing my client's first rollermouse which has been used moderately for at least three years and is now getting glitchy, as in, the mouse cursor jumps laterally on its own. Even so, I would say that the device seems to be of good quality and I expect the replacement to last longer.

I should explain a little of how it actually works. The black bar rolls up and down *and* slides side to side to allow full two-dimensional movement. There is no limit to it rolling up and down but the sliding hits the physical limits of the bar after maybe four inches. This gives you a lot of room but when you hit the edge it bumps the cursor over a few "inches" to let you recenter the cursor. If it sounds complex, it's only how I'm explaining it -- it's truly easy to work with.

That said, if you're wanting to any fine detail work that requires long dragging -- such as photoshop lassoing or drawing -- you will want a real mouse. Otherwise, hitting the lateral limits will get in the way. Fortunately, the rollermouse includes a ps/2 output for an extra mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy and fun, January 16, 2007
By Amazonian (San Francisco<P>San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
The Contour Rollermouse is an attractively designed device that makes a good attempt at replacing your standard mouse or trackball - and using it for the first time, you can't help but be impressed. A roller bar slides back and forth efforlessly, and that sliding bar can also be used for up and down cursor movement. The result is extremely accurate keyboard use that bypasses the need to go to a mouse whenever you need to go to a new location. Push down on the bar, and it's like a double-click.

Anyone suffering from serious joint problems will find this very easy to work with, and learning to use it takes only a little longer than it would for a standard mouse. For those who don't have physical problems, the Rollermouse is likely to stave them off. It bears noting, however, that here's also a Rollermouse Pro, which has added comfort. it's only $10 more.

Problems? Everyone mentions the price ($189-199), though a number of online vendors attempt to sell it at a mark-up. Certainly don't pay more than this. This does not include a keyboard - only the "roller" and a pad. Frankly, the buttons could have been somewhat bigger. But the manufacturer offers a one month free trail period, so it's really a no-lose situation.
