Beware the color

Color: Red Oak Verified Purchase

I have red oak floors in natural/clear finish. I have previously used the "Natural Oak" color and it works fine. I decided to try the red oak color option to see if it would be an even better match but it is not. It is way darker than I expected. Other than that, it is a great product. Cheap, easy to use and it stores well.

Putty workable but does not dry or harden.

Color: Natural Oak

I used this putty to fill 18 gauge brad nail holes.

Positive: The putty is smooth and easy to work. The container allows you to see the level without removing the lid. The screw lid does not require you to pry it open.

Negative: This putty does not dry. I applied it 3 days ago and it is still as soft as it was when it was applied. About 4 hours after application, I set a heat lamp about 4 feet from the cabinet to raise the temperature to about 65-70 degrees. After 24 hours the putty was still soft.

I removed the heat lamp and waited 2 more days and the putty is just as soft as when it was applied.

Not sure what to do next? Try to scrape it off?

Was I supposed to mix with solvent before applying?

Excellent finishing putty for hardwoods

I use this putty to cover some shoddy workmanship on some red oak hardwood floors with clear satin finish. This product is phenomenal and a lifesaver. It covers holes, cracks etc so well that sometimes I go looking for the repair spot later and I can't see it. It just happens to be a good color and texture match to my existing floors. It is easy and clean to work with (essentially like kids' playdough) and dries solid in a few days. I have also used it on railings and trim on the staircase for tiny nailholes and it worked like a charm. I am ordering another jar to have around.

Drying oil based putty slow to harden

Color: White

This is linseed oil-based putty, and as such it's EXTREMELY slow to cure (if it does ever harden). Skip it and go with water-based (or nitrocellulose-based) filler.
