4.0 out of 5 stars I (heart) gimmicks, March 19, 2009
Ok, the other reviewer is whining about the lack of 3D. Whatever. This is basically a dvd which contains all the animations from Spike and Mike's Twisted Animation Festival, a traveling short animated film show with usually funny shorts. All of this should be obvious to anyone looking at this item.

The DVD is standard fare and the content is mostly good. The gem of which is, obviously, Dr. Tran. A few of the others are misfires, but on a whole, worth the money for people that want to re-live the live showings. If you're buying this strictly for Dr. Tran, you may be a little disappointed as all of the other shorts are from different people, and none, in my opinion, are up to Dr. Tran's standards. You may want to consider Dr. Tran: Number One American Icon instead, which is a bunch of shorts from lonesausage, the creators of Dr. Tran. In fact, go buy that too, even if you get this, its worth every penny.

Overall entertaining with a few misses. But gee, I would have given it 400 stars if it was 3D...

1.0 out of 5 stars 3D scam, December 25, 2008

The disk comes with a pair of 3D glasses for Here Comes Dr. Tran...unfortunately, it's a prank that I unfortunately fell for--this review will hopefully help you avoid it. The '3d' segment, in Here Comes Dr. Tran, is only about 5 seconds...the entire short for the most part is 2D. The 'lame' joke here is a reference to those movies where only PART of the film is in 3D and you have to put your glasses on when those parts come up. Here, after several 2D minutes into this short film (which plays as a trailer for a Dr. Tran movie), you are told, "Ladies and Gentlemen: Please put on your 3D glasses now," at which Dr. Tran says, "What are you doing!?". Then, the sign pops back up, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Please remove your 3D glasses now." Hilarious.

If you are looking at this because you want to add to your 3D DVD collection, pass it by. I am really ticked off about it personally. The joke would have been just as funny without the 3D glasses altogether, but apparently the distributors saw an opportunity to scam people into buying this.

I didn't even watch the other shorts on this--I am sure they are entertaining, but I really wouldn't have bothered with this had it not been for the 3D short, which Amazon states, "...and Here Comes Dr. Tran, which requires the use of 3-D glasses (included in set)."
