4.0 out of 5 stars Kettler Ergo Racer Review, January 16, 2007
I bought the Kettler Ergo a couple of years ago to do indoor training when the weather gets bad. Quickly -
Pros: *Very solid feeling. The eddy current wheel is very smooth, quiet, and provides plenty of resistance when you dial up the watts. Good adjustment possible on both seat and handle bars.
Cons: *For the money, you'd expect software included. I paid over $1,500 and that rankled me that it is not included. *Outdated serial port interface on unit. Few new computers have these. I just recently purchased a Serial-USB converter cable. Finally I can see if I can get the 3rd party software to see if it will work.
Overall: Very satisfied. I prefer a solid, quiet trainer that works to a noisy, cruddy one with good software.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am very happy with this bike, but maybe not all people will be, April 11, 2009
By ane "rower" (spokane wa) - See all my reviews

I got my bike almost two years ago. I did a very extensive market search before I decided to by this bike. I am 40 y.o. 6',4'' 190 lb, I use the bike three to four time a week. The bike is very sturdy, very stabile, very quiet and smooth, very adaptable, simply a pleasure to ride. I pedal about 50% standing-up and about 50% sitting, I get about 1200 cal in 45 min with an average heart rate 140-150 hbpm. For me this is really a great bike, and I am very happy. It is also gives a very similar feeling to a real bike, i.e. on a flat surface, or on a mild incline.

However, I think if I am younger, or if I am a more serious athlete the resistance that this bike offers would not be enough. Except for the first 5-10 warm-up, I do all my spinning at 450-600 watts, what is 80 to 100% max for this bike. I would really like if this bike has about 30% more resistance, something that can mimic like 8 % incline. To increase resistance sometimes I do my biking with a 10-20 lb vest. Unfortunately it can get too hot under such west.

I also miss a display that would show how my average heart rate varies with time.

I give this bike 5 stars, since it gives me almost everything I want and I enjoy it, however for professional athletes this might not be enough. Alternative option is vision-fitness bike that costs about 30% more.

PS. I do not know how difficult is to assemble this thing since my was assembled in a shop where I got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great indoor bike, August 29, 2008
By Coach Larry (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Usage: I put in about 10 hours/week during winter months on this. I have a good number of miles on it at this point. This is a great indoor cycle for the $. One of the best features is that you can coast. Other trainers make you keep pedaling while the flywheel is spinning. I think that is not cool.

The computer on this is great. Really big numbers.
Bars are a little funky. I removed the forearm rests and it was much more comfortable.
Pedals are nice. Double-sided.
Plenty of adjustment on saddle and bars. Will fit a huge range of people.
Only thing missing for serious training is a true power (wattage) output reading.

Handlebars a disaster. Created by someone who never rode a bike. Can't stand and pedal like a spinning bike. It is quiet. Good for spinning while sitting only. Read more
