The Madison Tote is beautifully styled and well constructed. I was especially impressed by the egg-crate padded laptop compartment. However, this bag is FREAKISHLY large. It's about twice the size of a normal tote...the effect is akin to those oversized joke sunglasses you see people wearing at football games. I had bruises on my shoulder after carrying it for just one day! At that point I sent it back. I then went to Target and bought a Michael Graves laptop tote for $29.99 that isn't as fancy, but is much more proportionate, is nice enough for work, and adequately protects my tablet PC.

I don't agree that this bag is way too big, because it's made to be a laptop bag and not a handbag so it should be bigger. I think this bag is beautiful. However, it is NOT 18" wide at the top, and to fit a large laptop that's kind of important. It is 18 inches at the bottom so technically the description is accurate. But the bag has a slight A-line to it that isn't easy to spot in the pictures here.
If you have a laptop that's smaller than 17 inches, this will work, otherwise save your time and money.

I was looking for a long time for a durable and stylish work tote, and I settled on the Mobile Edge Madison. I was excited when it arrived, as the product was packaged very well. However, I got the bag out of its packaging only to find that although the trim is leather, the body of the bag is made from a cheap-looking glossy microfiber -- that already had a scratch! I was so disappointed. To add insult to injury, the position of the top zipper did not allow entry to my 15" laptop. Suffice to say, I returned the bag immediately.
I ended up buying the Baggallini A La Carte tote instead. It is a much more casual bag, but very serviceable and made of much higher quality materials that wear quite well.

I bought a different Mobile Edge bag (faux croc)and returned it, very disappointed, because it was very cheap quality. I searched high and low on the internet for an alternative bag--purposely avoiding Mobile Edge--but found scant little out there that would accommodate a laptop bigger than 15.4" and protect it well. Mobile Edge seemed to have one of the larger selections of bags for larger laptops, and so I landed on this bag as replacement for the awful Mobile Edge bag I returned. I'm glad I gave them a second chance.

This bag is much more nicely made. The leather trim and microfiber are attractive, and the bag is functional and quite sturdy. The laptop compartment has much better padding than most pc bags I've seen--I think my laptop is well-protected in this bag. And the other compartment is very spacious and well-designed. The padlock that's on the front appears to be for cosmetic purposes, but it DOES actually lock, and comes with two keys.

A couple downsides are that, although it's advertised as a bag designed to hold a larger laptop, it only JUST barely fits my Samsung R580, which has a 15.6" screen, and measures 15" x 10". Although it hasn't scratched yet, I worry about scraping the zipper on my new laptop, because it IS such a tight fit, and the bag is somewhat rigid and stiff. It also does indeed weigh a TON, and as it's designed to hold so much, it practically invites you to make it even heavier than it already is.

Overall, though, this bag is well-made, should last a long time, and is one of only a very few bags that will hold your larger-sized laptop.

I like the bag a lot. Would buy again; and I bought mainly because of the size and color. But now that I have used it for 2 weeks, I would re-think the color. Not because I don't like it, but because it picks up dirt from simple touches to other things very easily. Feel like I am constanly cleaning or having to be very careful what it touches.

This bag was a great size, had a good look to it - fashionable yet professional but weighed a ton!!! Sure, you can fit your laptop. wallet, personal effects, cell phone, etc. in there but you have to be prepared to carry all that weight on your shoulder. The other con is that it is not a great air travel bag since it doesn't fit well under the seat in front of you and only one side zippers so you can lose things in-flight. I'm disappointed it didn't work out b/c I really like the styling.

This laptop bag is exactly what I was looking for! I read some of the other reviews prior to ordering and some were saying "freakishly large bag". I took the chance anyway because in the picture this bag looked perfect. This bag is NOT freakishly large by any means. It is actually smaller and lighter than the original laptop bag that came with my laptop. It is stylish and professional looking while still having room for notebooks and folders for my job. I carry this bag almost everyday for work and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

While my laptop (I have a 15.5 in Sony Vaio S Series) is 0.5" inches too long to fit into the sleeve, the overall size and usefulness of the bag is just perfect! I can carry my laptop vertically, multiple notebooks, my pens and pencils and various stacks of papers all inside the bag without being overburdened with weight. And at 26 weeks pregnant that is a huge plus! I also love the little makeup wrist bag that came with this. It allows me to fit my lip balm eye drops, mascara and keys all in one place.
