This is an 8" square mounting plate. I am using it to ceiling mount my projector. It accepts standard 1 1/2 threaded plumbing pipe for connection / extension to the mount on the projector. Of course with the large size there should be something in the ceiling to mount it to. When my home was built I had the builder create a mounting area for projectors with side by side 2 x 12's between the ceiling joists. I used this along with a 5" extension and Chief RPA245 which is a custom mount for my projector. The combination created and rock solid and stable mount for my projector. The projector is 16' 3" from the screen. If you look a the pixels on the screen with magnifying glass the pixels are prefectly stable with zero movement. This helps to create a execptionally clear and detailed image.

I secured this to a single ceiling joist (who has two that close together anyway?) diagonally with bolts like you would use for a flatty wall mount. The bolts were 3.5" into 2x6 (with 5/8" sheetrock). I predrilled the holes as well. I didn't want to split the joist. This reciever is built extremely strong and it's heavy. I used it with the Chief CMS0305 column and the powder coating matched perfectly. I hung a Panny T-AE7000U Full HD 3D Home Cinema Projector by the way. This unit does have a little allen style set screw to lock the pipe in right at the threads to ensure a positive install. I would buy again and recommend highly.

I ordered this plate in plenty of time to have it by the time I needed it for a projector installation. I was promised two-day delivery, but I guess they waited a week before they decided to ship it 2nd day. At any rate, I had to buy another plate locally at a higher price to get the job done. Now I have a plate that I don't need. Anyone need a frisby??
