This is a reasonable collection of Irish music by various singers. However, many of them aren't what I'd call drinking songs and a few aren't even Irish. The obviously non-Irish songs are "Banks of the Ohio", "Long Black Veil", "Roseville Fair" and "The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda." Note that "The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda" is clearly Australian, despite the fact that it was written by a Scot.

Quibbles aside, this is a good selection of mostly Celtic songs performed by a small selection of singers. The sound quality is very good but doesn't seem to have been enhanced. Whether that's good or bad depends on your experience with so-called enhanced recordings. Sometimes, the enhancements destroy the recording while other enhancements do bring out better sound.

If you're interested in celtic music but aren't aquainted with the various singers, this album can serve as a sampler of the celtic music that's available. However, it contains several tracks by a small number of different contributors. It completely omits one of the best Irish tenors, John McDermott.

I'm giving this album only three stars because it is not what the title implies that it is.

Some of the songs are less than interesting and caught in less than vintage sound. But you have to like this. You're engaged in an imaginary Dublin pub-crawl,after all, and you don't have to shell out for plane tickets or overpriced Guinness. Enjoy
