I decided it was time to invest in reachers for the rooms in my home that I use most, so I oredered three more from [...]: the Invacare Multi-Pik Reacher, the PikStik Pro Aluminum Reacher, and the Medline 31" Reacher. I put them all through several tests of common uses I have for reachers: pulling books down from shelves, picking up bits of paper and coins, and unloading the dishwasher. The results? I found the Invacare to be the most useful for me by far. The Medline seems to require more muscle power to grasp things, so it comes in a close second. The PikStik feels flimsy and I had a hard time grasping things. It has been consigned to the pantry where things are organized so that I do a minimum of reaching.

This item is worth every penny to say the least. the handle is very easy to use for any size hand. compared to some other of the similar reachers the construction is light in weight and sturdy enough to pick up large pieces of trash in the yard and even smaller branches (after hurricane wilma).

The Medline Reacher is a great product. It is durable, lightweight, and well made, and that is why I gave it five stars. Unfortunately, I have weak hands and could not use it and had to return it. However, if you have adequate hand strength and are looking for a reacher I would definitely recommend this product.

I received this reacher as a gift when I broke my ankle and could not reach things very well. I find it very awkward to use and it feels clumsy. The very tip of the pick up part does not meet when you close the jaws, making it impossible to pick up very small items. It does not have a locking feature which is helpful sometimes. I purchased a "Pik Stik" which I find to be far superior. It has a gun type grip and it has the locking feature. It is strong with an aluminum shaft and the jaws grip well including the tips which close and allow small items to be picked up. It also comes in several lengths to suit your particular needs. The jaws can be rotated and locked increasing it's usefulness. The Pic Stik is also less expensive. I do NOT recommend the Medline reacher. Go for the Pic Stik and you'll be much happier with your choice.

I have owned and broken most grabbers on the market. The fold-up Gopher is a joke, another, with a flimsy wire down the center breaks after too much use, and the heavy-duty unit from Lowes is hard on the wrist. This unit is the smart way to go! It is strong and durable and makes the most sense in the way it utilizes the strength of the hand and fingers and relieves pressure from the wrist. Also, it is exactly the correct length for a six foot man. No bending at the lumbar required!

This Medline 31" Reacher is not nearly as good as my previous one. My previous Medline 31" Reacher had an easily-operated spring, but the new one has a stiff spring, making it hard to operate the grips. The tips of my previous Medline 31" Reacher were made of rubber, but the new one has tips made of plastic, making it hard to pick up small objects.

First off the reacher is a very nice tool when it works but it has two rubber tips that actually do the grabbing. Without one or both of these it is useless. The tips are thin and just slide on and off and are very easy to loose which I did.
I then went online to purchase another set of tips......NO LUCK. Next I emailed Medline customers service to purchase replacement tips, they emailed me back "I'm sorry, we do not sell them separately"
So now, I will throw this in the trash $25.00 gone.

I purchased this for my Mom to help her pick things up off the floor (she's 89 and has limited mobility). What set this model apart from the others I tried was the handle grip. It's much easier and more secure to use if you have limited hand mobility since you can take advantage of your full hand to depress the handle. The hand grip is also cushioned for comfort.

Other models had a trigger mechanism that were much harder for her to use - oftentimes she'd drop the item she was picking up since she couldn't keep the trigger depressed. This is a much better design for her needs.

The overall build quality is better than I expected given the price. Seems like it will last for quite a while for indoor use.
