As with all Grohe products the quality of manufacture is excellent. The problem is with design.

The plastic reservoir bottle is threaded, yet it does not screw into the body of the dispenser. Instead, it is held in place by prongs. When refilled the full weight of the dishwashing liquid causes the bottle to release from the prongs. On several occasions the bottle fell and spilled on the floor and items stored in the cabinet below the sink. Needless to say cleaning up spilled concentrated dishwashing liquid is no picnic. It takes dozens of wringings of the sponge before the sudsing subsides. I finally solved this problem by installing a makeshift L bracket to support the reservoir bottle. Not my idea of great out of the box design.

The second problem is that the pump siphons. This means that in a short period of time, the viscous diswashing liquid will clog the pump's weep holes and the dishwashing liquid continues to pour out of the dispenser onto the counter. The pump has to be disassembled and soaked in hot water to remove any residue. This works for a while. Grohe will send a replacement pump -- and then the process begins anew. If the dispenser did not look so good and match the Grohe faucet (5 stars for the faucet) I'd replace it.

I have had two of these soap dispensers for a little over 7 years now and have been very happy with them. They match the Lady Lux SS faucet beautifully and I use one for dish soap and one for hand soap.

I agree, the reservoir is a weak point. However, it's an inconvenience not unique to Grohe. They are all a pain when it comes time to refill the reservoir whether it attaches with threads or is a friction fit like this model. And if you have deep sinks like I do, you about have to work for Cirque du Soleil(tm) to refill them!

THERE IS A BETTER WAY and I got this tip from a friend of mine (Thanks Andrew!). Take your dispenser pump to your local hardware store or home improvment center and look for clear vinyl tubing. Select the size of vinyl tubing that will snugly fit over the plastic tube that extends into the reservoir bottle. Now buy your favorite dish or hand soap in a BIG bottle and put it in the cabinet under the sink. Cut the vinyl tubing so that it reaches all the way down to the bottom of your BIG soap bottle. Finally, recycle those little plastic reservoir bottles and enjoy pumping your favorite soap to your heart's content for months on end without the dreaded wondering-when-is-this-darn-thing-going-to-run-out!!!

My contractor installed this to match the Grohe faucet next to it. It was fine until the stainless steel soap dispenser started to rust and then it didn't look quite the same.

The biggest problems occur when you fill the dispenser. If you fill it more than about half-way, there is a significant probability that the weight of the dispenser will cause it to fall off the (poorly-designed) assembly. If it doesn't fall off and you continue to fill it, the soap/lotion can overflow from the bottle underneath the sink onto the insides of the cabinet. Then you have a real mess to clean up. I just can't imagine that a major manufacturer would not discover these problems before putting this item on the market.

I would have given this product a '0' if that were possible. Since it is not, I gave it the lowest possible score.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.

I, too, bought this pump to to match a Grohe faucet. I have not had any trouble at all with the dispenser bottle falling off (knock on wood bcs I know about spilled soap!), but maybe I didn't fill it full enough. I thank the reviewer for the L-bracket idea. Will get right on that one!

My problem is that the white "suction housing" that fits into the stainless nozzle (and connects to the tube that goes down into the dispenser bottle) has cracked longitudinally. No more suction. It started as a slow "drool" onto the counter and then would not pump at all. Thot it might be the o-ring, but it turned out to be the crack. I tried to repair it with epoxy, but no joy.

I am in the process of trying to contact Grohe for a replacement part. Sounds as tho I may not be the first!

Having read these reviews, if I were buying again (and I hope I'm not), I'd go up a quality level....

....now that I think about it, however, the suction housing might be the same on all models. In fact, I'd be surprised if it weren't (Henry Ford and all that). So, why spend more? Read the reviews of the more expensive ones, and see what you think. I wonder if any of those buyers has experienced a loss of pumping suction?

It's March, 2010, now, and I've had the thing since summer of 2004. The problem appeared about 4 months ago, and I've been limping along. But it's time to do something about it!

Update mid-March, 2010: I contacted Grohe thru their website and got a response that one was on the way to me, free. Here's the contact info:
