This is a great product, but the description Amazon provides is pretty spare.

The guard is 25" L X 6 1/2" H X 5/8" D (at its deepest point). It appears to me to be made of silicone, the same type of material as a California Water Blade for instance. It is molded with 1/8" thick walls. It has a sort of domed shape in cross section such that it is 5/8" deep in the center, tapering to the 1/8" flange thickniss at top and bottom. Two horizontal ribs run the length of the guard dividing the back of it into three cells. This works very well to provide some stiffness with plenty of cush to dampen an impact for both vehicles.

It hangs from two suction cups, one at either of the top corners. These suction cups appear to be of very good quality, with a small tab at the top to grab and pull for removal so that you don't have to pick at the edge of the cup. The cups are 1 3/4" diameter in the free condition and flatten out to 2" diamter installed. Based on 20 years of experience with aquarium equipment I think these suction cups are going to last a long time.

The product description touts this as a parking lot helper. "Leave your vehicle and rest assured that your auto will be dent, nick, and chip-free when you return!", it says. I say rest assured someone will steal it because it is so cool. I bought mine for my own garage. I am one of those rare individuals who actually parks two cars in his two car garage. I have a freshly painted classic parked next to the next project and as soon as I brought the car home in fresh paint it felt about six inches wider trying to get in and out of the car. This door guard was EXACTLY what I needed to protect my new paint job, and while it's not that important at this stage, it will also do a dandy job of protecting the car it's stuck on - which is what is was primarily designed for.

Five stars for sure.

I purchased this for use in my garage to keep by new car from getting door dings from my wife's SUV. Having kids jumping in and out of the SUV in close proximity resulted in the only dents I ever had in my last car.

Based on the previous reviews I ordered magnets and other materials to change the basic way this bumper attaches. However, I discovered that it sticks just fine using the two included suction cups. I simply wet my finger and rub the suction cups prior to placement, and they stay stuck until I remove them. In terms of size, I parked the second car and simply lined up the pads in the middle of the 'strike zone'. They are more than big enough to cover the random parking distance fore, or aft, that my SUV might vary by. So far they've handled impacts extremely well with my young children flinging their door open into my new car with no damage whatsoever. You'd really have to throw the door into the bumper to create a broad dent and no bumper could protect against that.

I've attached these to cars that are clean and not so clean and they attach fine, again if you wet the suction cups. I've been using mine for more than 6 months now and they are still sticking on just fine - never once fell off. On one occasion I accidentally left one on and when I got up to about 50 mph, I heard it banging against the door, so I pulled over and removed it with no damage to either the door or the bumper. That's firmly attached if you ask me.

I definitely recommend these and will be buying more to protect the SUV.

I got this because our two car garage is very tight and I was sick of getting dings on my door. It worked like a charm for about a week, and the cheap 2 cent suction cups stopped working. I suppose I could have gone to Home Depot and replace suction cups, but I didn't want to do that on a weekly basis. Overall good concept, but horrible execution. Move on and try something else.

This thick silicone pad attaches to the door by a pair of suction cups. The cups need to be clean as does the car door to be effective in staying stuck. Good choice for aluminum door skins that will not take a magnetic door guard. The footprint of the silicone pad is a bit small - only a couple of feet wide, so placement on the door needs to be carefully considered to make sure it's properly positioned to block the opening of a neighboring car door into the pad. If properly positioned, then it is effective. Probably not worth using in public as it would be quickly stolen.

When the panels stick to the side of your car, this works great. However, we kept coming back to our car and finding one or both of the panels had fell off. This explains the mixed reviews.

If you're using this your likely already concerned about your expensive car, so I'd go with something else. Imagine if you found a scratch or ding and this thing was half falling off?

We have found the best product is to attach a swimming noodle with some cord and bendy attachment devices. it's looks awful, but does the job really well. Depends upon whether you care what it looks like.

This does what is claimed which is to prevent door dings and scratches. I use this in my garage for protection from the other car. I purchased two of them because my other car is a 4-door. I've read other's reviews about the suction cups falling apart. I don't see that happening. They work great and I can't see them wearing out or falling apart. They are just like any other suction cups I've ever seen.
