This stuff works! My computer was freezing up because, ironically, it was running hot at the cpu. After applying the product, it dropped my cpu temp. 10-15 degrees C. Now it doesn't freeze up anymore.

I was needing a low tacticity heat exchange material for a peltier and I saw other horrible review but didn't pay them to much mind since I would be using this in a lab environment I had a lot of flexibility and tools to properly attach the material.

The heat exchange material has two plastic sides, one you peel off and the other you pull off after its attached, but the material does not stick at all to the intended surface. I attached it to a peltier device which can create heat or below freezing, in any extreme I want. I couldn't detach the material whether cooling it, freezing it or heating it up! It turns to silly putty when warm and hard as a rock when cold but never detaches. I gave it a little assistance by peeling a small amount off a corner of the pad but it was a train wreck because the material sticks to the plastic backing with varying strengths. I managed o get one square completely attached and then accidentally destroyed a second. At this point i gave up and threw it away.

TO REMOVE THE MATERIAL AT ROOM TEMPERATURE: Use Isopropyl alcohol (Walmart for $1.50 91% is fine) saturate the substance with a small amount using a Q-tip. Do not use detergent or cleaners because it WILL melt and spread leaving an oily residue. The trick is to make the heat exchange material work against itself. Start rolling a small ball allowing the alcohol to get underneath and then roll it around and it will pull itself off again. It should take about 3 minutes and you should get it all, then clean the area with the alcohol again. (Alcohol is extremely safe and virtually non conductive).

It is exactly like hard chewing gum or silly putty. It will not release from the backing making installation impossible even for professionals (uh hum). This material is NOT a phase-change material which can peel on and peel off easily.

I got this thinking the pads would directly replace the pads Dell used on my portable's heat sink tubing. I was wrong. These pads are very thin, and Dell's was quite thick.

I wound up using a ceramic-based grease from Arctic Silver that is not electrically conductive in place of the former padded area. I had to make sure the grease comfortably came up to the heat pipe, but it did and this worked phenomenally well. Temperatures on my processor, bus, and video chip all went down by at least 20 degrees.

This pad will surely work for some, but if you need something with such small tolerance, why not get a high-performance grease that also won't conduct electricity?

Strangely, the pricing here is double what I could have paid at a local computer store. FYI.

This applies cleanly unlike the paste that came with my heatsink, and worked well. My CPU temp is below my chipset temp which is all one can really ask for.

Oh since it doesn't come with directions you will either need to know how to apply it or look up how to apply thermal grease. It is all over the web, but a fairly basic to do it is:
Clean both surfaces as best as you can with something plastic, then to draw a line with the grease like with icing horizontally (well in general with the USB stuff pointing out back to the left, or if you want to be technical orient so that the notched corner is on your lower right). Just a single line from about 15% in to 85% from the edge (or valley) of the top. That won't give you the lowest temps but it should cover even intel quad cores fine, and give you decent temps. Your mileage ma vary of courese. See the web for more precise details.

I like this one due to the plunger applicator rather than a tube. Plus you don't get a large amount so don't pay a ton for this one versus a large tube many other places sell you. How often can you use this stuff anyway. There you go, works as advertised and is still enough to do several heat-sink installations without waste.

This is the first time I have bought thermal grease, and because of that I can't really say how well it works compared to other greases out there. It does work though, I bought it so I could use it on a celeron 2.4ghz that I bought used on amazon. As the cpu was used I didn't really want to spend a lot for thermal grease, and this was the cheapest I could find. After cleaning the cpu and the heatsink and adding this grease, it brought the temperature from around 51c-54c idle to around 39c-41c idle, depending on how many background tasks it was doing. I currently have it overclocked to 3.0ghz and it stays at around 46c while idle. So it's worked pretty well.

I ordered this thinking it would be better than applying grease to the CPU.
I removed the one side of the protective paper, only to find out that I can't remove the other side without destroying the square shape. After two failed attempts at removing the thermal pad. I put them in the freezer.
After about 30 minutes, the pad had become hard enough to remove from the paper and was put on the CPU. So far, CPU has not overheated yet, so I guess the product works, but it is a pain to get it off the paper.
