Purchased this filter for a 2014 Subaru Outback. I have usually used these orange Fram filters on all of my vehicles for at least the last 20 years, and never had one fail. On my Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel, the normal oil pressure is 65 psi, so these Fram filters are certainly strong enough for the 35~40 psi oil pressure in a gasoline engined car. The black coating on the upper 1/4 of the filter is roughened, making it easy to screw on the new filter with your bare hand to the usual amount of torque needed to seat the gasket (as tight as you can get it by hand is enough). You might also be able to unscrew the old filter by hand thanks to the black coating, but if not, the coating will help a filter wrench "grab hold" if the filter is really stuck on tight. NOTE: NEVER use a filter wrench on the middle part of any spin-on filter cartridge (either oil or diesel fuel filters) as you can easily crush or split the side wall of the filter. The best place to apply the wrench is right at the base of the filter, as low as possible. If you can't get at the base of the filter, the second best place is right at the top, as close to the "crown" of the filter as possible.
The Fram filters are very reasonably priced, and are okay for low mileage cars where you are changing them at least as frequently as the vehicle manufacturer's recommended interval. For high mileage cars that are starting to burn oil due to worn rings or valve guides, the more rapid carbon and acid build up in the engine oil might be a good reason to consider the somewhat more expensive "High Mileage" or "Tough Guard" filters.
Also note: Any engine burning petroleum based fuels has some amount of sulphur in the fuel, which turns into sulfuric acid as a byproduct of the combustion process.

The grip surface is one key feature that I don't see on other oil filters, it used to be a thick rubber add-on and now it appears to be a sprayed on surface, still having it is better than not having it since it allows for a better ability to apply torque and avoid slip.

It does its job well, fits my Accord without issues. Some filters have an anti-drainback valve which this doesn't have being a base version but that feature is more of use during car cold startup only. One tip that applies to all DIY oil changes, just check to make sure the filter gasket (that rubbery ring surrounding the filter mouth) is removed along with the oil filter you just removed. Sometimes those rings come off the filter and get stuck to the engine surface.

I've used Fram for over thirty years and never had oil related engine issues in a number of plus 200k vehicles--or a thirty year old lawn tractor. Besides being inexpensive, the grip feature is very convenient.

I use these on my two teenage Nissans. A 1998 Pathfinder and a 2001 Maxima. I do all the oil changes and most maintenance/repairs on these cars and over the years this is the only filter I've used. No need to spend top dollar on a filter - unless you plan on not changing your oil for long intervals. I change twice a year - Spring and Fall. . The Pathfinder is currently at 198k miles. The Max is currently at 170k. Both are still running strong. This filter is quality at a reasonable price and keeps me car note free.

I purchased these filters for my wife's 2009 Honda Civic. They perform flawlessly, and I love the textured grip on them that make changing the filter a breeze. I haven't noticed any change in performance, and these work just as well as any other filter that I've used on the car. I've been using these filters for over 3 years now and have yet to have one single issue, buy with confidence.

Fram almost always has it down on these products, but most importantly the price is also down. In a relative sense when compared to their competitors. Point is, while it is essentially glorified perforated threaded tubing with cardboard inside, it does the job it was meant to do.

For a do-it-yourselfer, Fram makes it easy. I have never had an issue with any Fram filter and I have been using them for 25+ years. Also, I've run my cars to 130,000+ miles and never ever had an engine issue. I've asked a pro mechanic about that, and his answer: you have not always purchased a great car, but you've always taken care of what you purchased. Fram has helped me do just that.

For some reason, it seems Fram filters get a bad rap. I have used them for years on many different vehicles and have never had a problem. I think they are perfectly fine for the price and does the job as advertised!
