I have a stubborn drain that regularly backs up (I have long hair). I've learned that all of these clog removers work best if you use REALLY REALLY hot water when you go for the final rinse. Even the best of these, like this one (or my favorite - Penetrex) will *not* work if you use cold water. This is what I do when my tub becomes a shin-deep puddle by the end of a shower:

1. Pour the entire bottle down the drain and let it rest for as long as the bottle says you can (about 20-30 minutes)
2. Warm up the water without letting it go down the drain. I have a removable shower head that I can pull out and spray the water into the toilet until hot. You could also use a bucket...?
3. When the water is *HOT* and running at full let it fill the tub and rinse down the drain. Continue to let the HOT water run for a couple minutes to wash any extra junk out.

It will truly blow your mind. It's like good 'ol Mr. Plumr quietly sneaks in while I'm in the other room and replaces my dirty drain with a brand new squeaky clean pipe. After the guilt (over hoping this chemical doesn't make it's way to the fishes) subsides, I am as happy as ever.

PS -- Pour the gel slowly so it doesn't back up into the tub. Although it hasn't been permanent in my tub, it does turn the tub an orange color wherever it splashes onto.

PS -- You may be tempted to take a celebratory shower afterwards, just because you can. DO IT. You deserve it.

I got this for my first floor bath room tub that my 14 year old daughter screwed up recently it said on direction to let sit in pipe for 1 hour but from our experience it depends on how clog your pipe is we poured down hole of tube and presto very easy . We let ours set for ( One hour and half ) and so far with the using now the pipe is clog free and water goes down with no problem great buy so far of the LIQUID PLUMBER FOAM PIPE SNAKE 17 fl oz : )
And a decent amount of liquid too use to ~~ here extras to help with purchasing decision

Shower drain was slowly backing up over a few months. Nothing out of the ordinary for a house of 2 (hair, soaps, etc.) though maybe some additional dog hair made it's way in there from a rinse off. With the initial slow down I used the science project/safe for environment option of vinegar and baking powder + hot water, which worked for a little while but didn't solve the issue. Liquid Plumr was the next option and I picked it up mostly based on price and amazon prime status. Needed it to ship quickly since the drain was immediately backing up when the water was turned on, the shower effectively became a shallow bathtub and it took 20-30 minutes to drain after a 3-5 min shower.

Followed the directions by waiting a full hour after pouring it in. The whole bottle was required (per directions) but for under $10 it's easier than measuring out anything. The directions also stated "hot water" to rinse after the hour. I took that hour of waiting to boil about 8 quarts of water and used that to rinse followed by the hottest setting the shower went to. Things seemed to drain well and although there was small build up of water in the drain it only barely topped the grate. Over the next day I made sure to run the shower on hot and everything seems to be good now. It's been about 3 weeks and no more backups.

If your pipes can handle it use boiling water.

This arrived in the rain, wet, with one of the bottles leaking and the box falling apart. I managed to get it apart and put away. But only because I was home when it arrived and got it separated quickly. If it had had to wait a hour or two I think the box would have been fully gone.

This really did not work well at all on my bathtub clog. However, when I put in the Liquid-Plumr Gel, it worked instantaneously. I highly recommend the gel if you have a pretty bad clog.
