Affordable and compact, the Matrix 12 utilizes a precision 20-degree single-beam sonar for better bottom and structure definition, and reaches a depth of up to 800 feet. While ideal for small spaces, this fishfinder is big in performance, with real-time sonar that instantly captures the action under your boat at up to 40 times per second, and Sonar Echo Enhancement that reveals the smallest details -- even bait when vertical jigging! All the information you need is displayed on an high-definition, five-inch LCD screen with 240x240 lines, in 12-level grayscale in your choice of Inverse Grayscale, Whiteline, High Contrast Bottom Black, or Structure ID Bottom Presentation. This fishfinder has a high-speed, micro-dynamic transducer for optimum performance that is reliable up to 70 mph, and even includes water temperature and is speed capable. The Matrix 12 also has full GPS trackplotting capability to show position, mark hotspots and easily find your way home, as well as PC-connection capability to save and manage waypoints and upgrade internal software. The GPS capability has a full-screen trackplotter and a 3D track and split-screen sonar track with an adjustable split. Easy to use, this fishfinder includes advanced upgrades that are plug-and-play compatible, from the GPS receiver, to the SmartCast wireless sonar link and PC connection accessories.

The Matrix 12 features one-touch zoom with 2x, 4x, 6x and 8x zoom levels, and TripLog with distance, elapsed time, and average speed when used with an optional speed sensor. This fishfinder has both fresh and saltwater set-up options for optimal performance in any environment, and allows for both totally automatic, or totally manual operation with upper and lower range control. The system also features a selectable large, easy-to-read digital readout with a backlight for night fishing, adjustable chart speed, and a memory that retains your settings, as well as alarms for depth, fish, and battery life. The Matrix 12 includes an adjustable chart speed, an instant image update that immediately shows results of settings changes for accurate fine tuning, and a freeze-frame that pauses the sonar scroll for detailed screen inspection. As an added convenience, this finder is ultra-compact in size, with an easy-on, easy-off one-button mounting system that allows it to go almost anywhere. The Matrix 12 is built tough with fully gasketed and waterproof construction so it even floats, and is assembled in the USA with a manufacturer's one-year warranty.

The Matrix 12 runs on 10-20 volts of DC power, providing 240 watts RMS output and 2,000 watts of peak-to-peak output. This unit operates on the 200kHz (20-degrees at -10db) frequency, and has a target separation of 2.5 inches to reveal close-hanging fish. The GPS capability on this system includes 750 waypoints, 20 routes, and 10 tracks with 2,000 points each. The Matrix 12 comes as a Transom Mount with a tilt-and-swivel quick-disconnect mount system and measures 7.25 x 7 x 4 inches (WxHxD).

I've had this product for quite some time now, and I have to say that I have enjoyed it a lot. The feeling of combining technology and nature makes for a great outdoors experience, and this gadget -while not the best you can find out there- has an excellent adaptability and capacity to add more functionality -like a GPS- which makes for an excellent price/benefit relation.
I have to say that using this fish finder I've caught some fish that I couldn't have otherwise. It helps by telling you where is the fish, depth, speed, etc. It wont get the fish for you, but it will give you eyes under the water.
My only complaint would be that when you turn it on, goes through some sort of auto-adjust process that takes some time to finish. The problem is not the time it takes, but that I have to make the boat go very fast for a while until the unit settles down and starts working properly. I've found that if I don't do this, the unit will never finish the auto-adjust process and it will switch to test-mode after some time.
I can't be sure if this is a malfunction or is the normal procedure of the unit, since I've never had one of these before. However, the manual says nothing about this "need for speed" when turning on the unit. Maybe I got a broken unit? Can't answer that of course, but as I said, it's my only complaint. Besides this, the product fulfilled my expectations completely. I can't wait to plug a GPS on it.
