I've used Lactaid for years, and as the years pass, the product keeps getting better and better. I used to have to take more of it for it to work, now I use one tablet just before eating the serving of dairy, and one tablet in the middle of eating the serving of dairy. It works great! One thing to be careful about though, is if you are as slow eater, you'll have to take more of it. When I eat a bagel with cream cheese for example, which takes more chewing than does ice cream which takes none, I end up using three tablets instead of two to be symptom free (e.g., one at the beginning, then I eat 1/3 bagel/cream cheese, take another, eat another 1/3, then take last pill for last 1/3 of bagel). Another great tip which I discovered.....when I began taking calcium supplements along with the Lactaid, it made my own symptoms disappear completely, so you might give that a try. My doctor says its probably because calcium supplements slow movement of the digestive tract. All in all, Lactaid Fast Act is a great product for lactose intolerant individuals and I highly recommend it.

My wife bought these by accident instead of the caplets. Lactaid, as a product, has helped me in a lot of situations. Like most things, there have been some exceptions - I expect that.

I found that these chewables do not work as good as the caplets, in my case. However, my biggest complaint is that I cannot stand the flavor and consistency. I don't want an additional flavor added to whatever it is I am about to eat.

I will stick to the pills.

These chewable tablets are handy when there's no liquid available for swallowing pills. However, they're sweetened with mannitol, a sugar alcohol that affects me the same way lactose does, with abdominal distress. When I told my GI doctor that mannitol didn't seem to agree with me, he said, "you and the rest of humanity." Besides being artificially sweetened, these tablets have a strong artificial-vanilla flavor that tastes especially appalling with foods containing garlic.

I HAVE HAD LACTOSE INTOLERANCE ALL MY LIFE. That means I have had it so long that no one knew what I had as a baby, but I was regulated to Goat's milk and Karo syrup and water and evaporated milk on some kind of rotating schedule that drove everyone nuts. Mostly, it gave me a great dislike for milk, and I grew up anyway. I just did not drink milk.
On sleepover's, my mom sent a note saying I was allergic and I could have Lemonade, Kool-Ade or Coke instead. It was a great way to avoid milk, but played hob with my teeth which had more than their fair share of cavities.
I don't remember exactly when Lactaid came on the market. I did not know anyone else who was Lactose Intolerant until After it was out. Back in the 60's one did NOT talk about anything that one had that was "Different." Not drinking milk fell into that category. So, when I saw Lactaid on the shelf at the pharmacy, I gave it a try. Wow! I could eat ice cream, drink shakes, down yoghourt, and guzzle a glass of 4% milk if I were so inclined. All I had to do was chew the proper number of tablets, generally one, prior to imbibing anything with Lactose in in and my stomach behaved itself as long as I followed the directions on the box.
For me Lactaid is a phamaceutical miracle. Finally, at an age somewhere close to God's, or, at least over 60, I can drink a Chocolate Malt with the best of them. My favorite is Sonic with an extra scoop of chocolate and an extra scoop of malt. Heaven on earth.
I have no negatives about this product. I follow the directions. It works. I get to have chocolate malts for breakfast. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who is dx with Lactose Intolerance or who suspects they may have it. It is inexpensive and works as directed. I keep some in my purse and in the cupboard at all times. Use it and enjoy milk products. Hoorah!!!!

I know a lot of people who this product works great for. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. In fact, every time I took these pills I ended up having a worse reaction than I would have had from consuming milk products alone. My symptoms were flu-like: nausea, vomiting, and headaches. I think it must be the Mannitol or some other filler that makes me so sick. I hope that no one else has such a bad reaction, but luckily I have found another lactase supplement that contains no fillers and works really well for me.

Normally after I eat something very creamy like ice cream, I get a little gassy, bloated, and I experience some stomach cramps and discomfort...but it's bearable. I decided to try Lactaid to see if it would help. It worked the first 3-4 times, but the next two times I used it, I got SEVERE abdominal cramping and nausea. Both occurred after 1-2 hours after using the pill. First time was on Saturday and the cramps lasted for a total of 24 hours (first few were the worst; then the next few hours every time I tried to eat something I get cramps). Yesterday, Tuesday, was the second time it happened and it included diarrhea and severe cramping again.

Even though the box lists no side effects, note that if you research online others have experienced cramping, nausea, and diarrhea from taking this pill. This is not FDA approved either, so be cautious when taking this product.
