A trailer ball is a trailer ball, but this one is chrome plated and other reviews have complained about how durable the plating actually is. Towed with a trailer I rented from U-haul this weekend, and realized that the monkeys there hadn't tightened the coupling down correctly when all i heard was banging and etc under braking and acceleration. After tightening it properly and towing over the weekend, I returned the trailer and saw the trailer ball. It still looks perfect and it will probably outlast my tow vehicle. Only thing I'm annoyed about? The current price is over 50% less than what I paid for it from Amazon a couple months ago.

My take is, this item came faster then I expected. The package was a little large, but secure. But what you expect it's a ball, a small ball. And the package is like a flag. When the UPS came, if it was not in that (flag bag :) ) it would take all day for him to find it. I connected to the hitch and it fits great. With the lock washer...beautiful!! And it makes the hitch on the vehicle noticeable. I just haven't use it yet. I will, that's why I gave it 3 stars after I test it out on my 2000 miles trip and the rental truck place inspect it. I will edit my stars and write another review. For now thanks!!

Ooh, shiny! Despite the dull appearance in the Amazon picture, this trailer ball is, indeed, shinyy chrome.

It's a trailer ball. You bolt it onto your drawbar with your pipe wrench and your big crescent wrench, then hook up your trailer. As long as you bought the right ball (correct size shank and ball), it's pretty hard to screw up.

Since I'm new to the whole trailer scene, I'm a little concerned that someone could remove the ball with my trailer hooked up to it, bolt it onto their own drawbar, and drive off with my trailer. Maybe it's harder than I suspect, but if you have the same concern, you might want to consider an Euro-style drawbar instead, which has the ball permanently welded on.

The photo doesn't show clearly, but there is a split-ring washer provided between the nut and the bottom of the hitch. The instructions do not tell you what two components this washer should be installed between. I did hitch-tounge-washer-nut.

This is an altogether plain-vanilla item, really hard extol it's virtues - although it IS incredibly inexpensive. It's used behind two vehicles whose appearance I'm quite particular about, so when it's not in use it's covered. I've heard complaints about the chrome plating, but even if that disappears after the first few uses, it's not significant to me; it's either under a black vinyl cover or inside a trailer coupler so even if it's rusty it's not visible.

The only problem I have encountered was it has small threads so hard to find an additional nut. I ordered the cheaper stainless steel one for an extra nut I wanted. I always believe in using a second nut for security.
