4.0 out of 5 stars If you're someone that takes your music seriously you might not get it, July 19, 2005
By George Dionne (Cape Cod, MA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)    (VINE VOICE)
The first thing you need to understand about this release is that it is meant to be tongue and cheek. It's not meant to be a serious interpretation of the Misfits music, it's not meant to destroy everything that the Misfits stand for; it's just meant to be fun. It is worth noting that it's quite impressive how the Nutley Brass was able to transform the Misfits music from heavy punk rock into shiny elevator music. "Last Caress" sounds like a classic game show theme with its combination of percussion, trumpets, and tubas.

"Astro Zombies" never sounded so chipper with its xylophone accents. "Where Eagles Dare" has a Middle Eastern tinge to it, and sounds like something Goldie Hawn would have danced to during the breaks on Laugh-In. "Some Kinda Hate" could have easily fit in with the musical Grease or any Frankie Avalon movie. "Teenagers From Mars" has a cartoon-ish feel with its xylophone heavy tones and scat-style vocals. Eerie space sounds, heavy brass, and piano dominate "Skulls". After hearing the Nutley Brass' version of "Die Die My Darling" I realized it may not be so bad to die.

The Bad
Nothing notable

The Verdict
The Nutley Brass does an outstanding job of interpreting the Misfits music in an unconventional style. If you enter the lounge with an open mind and a fondness for the Misfits, you're sure to have a good time. If you're someone that takes your music seriously you might not get what this CD is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Tribute CD.., July 5, 2005
I just got this cd, listened to the whole thing and all I have to say is this is hilarious! I highly recommend this if 1. you love the Misfits and 2. you have a sense of humor. If your looking for some deep meaning in this cd, you don't have the right sensibilities to appreciate something like this. It's the kind of thing that is so ridiculous it's brilliant. Very entertaining and very original. When you think of the Misfits song lyrics, and hear the orchestra playing the songs in this style of music, it's really very funny. It's like the soundtrack to a cult horror movie, that is if the movie was "Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Ice." I love weird stuff like this, and I'm sure these interpretations will wind up in some movie. It's also a nice presentation and comes with a cool drink coaster too.

Also, this was not done by Jerry Only, (as some of the habitual, boring Jerry bashers would like it to come off as). It is done by an orchestra called the "Nutley Brass", and their intent is to be funny, which it is. It says that very clearly inside the CD. The same orchestra that did the Ramones Songbook (elevator music versions of Ramones songs) did this one. It is a novelty album, and it represents itself as such. It is a tribute to the Misfits. Joey Ramone, called the Nutley Brass Ramones CD "clever genius" and I agree with that. The same applies here. Again, if you don't have a sense of humor, a love for Misfits songs, or appreciate the genre of "outsider" or weird music you will NEVER get this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiend Club Lounge, August 19, 2005
By Katbox52 (Portland,OR.) - See all my reviews
I enjoy listening to a C.D., at work ,that only I know the words to. I't's safe enough to play in the gift store I work at and I can hum along to Die, Die, My Darling and none of the customers know the true evilness of the songs. Some of the songs on this C.D. took some time to grow on me,but others I loved immediately. What a fun way to cover these songs!
