Product Description

Product Description

NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches fill the gap between unmanaged and fully managed switches. The family of ProSafe Smart Switches is designed for growing businesses that want control over their network without the cost and complexity of a full Layer 2/Layer 3 management implementation. This PoE capable Smart Switch, FS726TP, provides power and data over the same Cat-5 cable to enable affordable PoE solutions for mid-sized businesses. Using built-in standards based IEEE 802.3af PoE, the FS726TP offers web-based management including prioritization and SNMP making it ideal for deploying access points, VoIP phones and IP-based surveillance cameras. Two built-in Gigabit ports provide fast connections to servers or a Gigabit-speed backbone. With the utility of 24 10/100 Mbps ports, two copper 10/100/1000 ports and two hot-swappable Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) GBIC slots for optional fiber connectivity, growing business networks, classrooms and workgroups can benefit from superior performance and keep up with expanding network needs. This high performing switch features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture with an 8.8Gbps switching capacity for maximum data throughput. All 26 RJ-45 ports automatically negotiate to the highest speed and support Auto Uplink technology to make the right link.In addition, an intuitive, Web-browser interface offers the simple Smart Switch management, making it a snap to monitor switch performance, configure ports, even set up port trunks, VLANs, and traffic prioritization. Alternatively, use SNMP-based software to manage your Smart Switch. Shipped ready for use straight out of the box, it delivers switching that's easy to set up and use. NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches are ideal for adding basic management to your unmanaged networks and extending your managed networks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid product and a good value., March 22, 2007
By Jerry Scoggins (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The unit is solidly built(steel enclosure), and works flawlessly like all my other Netgear switches. It's perfect for applications that need PoE to power Wireless access points, or for my purpose of powering and connecting a bunch of IP security cameras. A nice surprise was the price for this unit as it's much less than other PoE switches I looked into. In addition, having the two Gigabit connections were perfect for connecting it into my Gigabit backbone, and continuing the chain. I've yet to enable and configure CoS or other advanced features, but the UI seems straightforward. I'm not an IP expert, so this switch was a nice option rather than going to a managed switch. My only complaint with the unit is the fan is louder than I expected, noticeable loud in a room with a couple computers also running. All my other switches have been fanless, so I'm spoiled. In the end, I'd purchase another one. In fact I probably will real soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a deal!, March 18, 2007
I purchased two for our new Voice over IP phone system and I works great! Took it straight out of the box, plugged it in and it's been working like a charm. No configuration, just plug and play. Please keep in mind that only 12 of the 24 ports are POE ports. We saved $2,000 by purchasing this product over a simular Nortel switch.

5.0 out of 5 stars get's the job done!, September 18, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent product. Just a simple plug and play. Quickly found our POE devices (cameras) and instantly provided the correct power. We were very concerned that there would be enough power for each camera and there was. The power requirement was Class 3 which means it had to provide 15 watts of available power per each POE port. (We were advised that this is very important.) It was hard to find a POE switch that provided the correct amount of wattage budget we required. Most manufactures are a little bit secretive about revealing the total watt output for the POE ports. The Netgear switch was placed in a position after a DHCP router. And it handles our IP cameras great using just a Cat5. Also, manages the non-POE devices easily and interfaces with our larger ethernet switch. Some reviews said it was a bit noisy, but this is not obvious in our home run room. We have not used the gigabit ports.
We think the unit is worth the extra expense.

I use this for a CCTV setup. The POE works perfectly and provides just enough ports for home surveillance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great switch on a budget price.
This switch is simple to setup and has features that you would pay considerable more for. I have nothing negative to say...small form for a large package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, yet powerful
This piece of equipment is not only a reliable 24 port switch, it is almost a router. It provides QOS, DHCP, and many other functions routers provide. Read more
