To start, I have a 2011 Subaru Outback. I bought this to adapt my Thule setup (fork trays and a tandem mount) and found it to be a complete waste once things got heavier. Here is why: the cheap plastic risers do nothing more than create a second, narrower set of cross rails with a further reduced weight limit. I suppose if all you were racking were 2 "good" bikes (max 25-30 lbs. each) it would be acceptable (not box store 50lb. high tensile steel bikes). However, for serious racking on the newer Outbacks, leave the factory rails in their "stored" position and get yourself the Thule 450/50 or 450/58 system. Using the factory bars as side rails allows you to use more roof space and increased weight limit (for a cost of course). I can now easily rack my tandem as well as 2 kayaks or 4 Thule fork mount trays. The 532 would never have held up to a single kayak let alone my tandem.

I just bought this item and was not sure what to expect. First of all, be advised that this is an adapter only that will allow you to mount racks to a factory installed roof rack. The Thule adapter attaches on to most factory roof racks be sure to check the fit guide for compatibility at [...] I used this adapter to add a pair of Yakima Raptor bike racks to my roof. Yes it worked with Yakima. The only adjustment I had make was to use a hacksaw to saw off some plastic components on the inside edges of the Yakima rack that fold in and out. I assume these were meant to be cut off because they folded back and forth. Leaving them on allows you to mount to a rounded bar and cutting them off adapts them to this bar which is rectangular in shape. In less than 1 hour everything was complete. This item is very afforadable, versatile, and easy to install.

Installed this adaptor on a Subaru Legacy Outback wagon with factory installed rack. Adaptor fits well and holds our Thule bike rack securely. We've taken several long distance trips with this without any problems. Great option for someone who already has a rack and simply wants to use it on a vehicle with a factory installed rack. Highly recommended.

This worked about as well as I could rig it with a ridiculous assortment of mismatched nuts and bolts. My 2005 xterra apparently needed a separate set of screws and nuts that are an optional separate purchase. This was never really clear to me or I would have forked over the $15 or whatever it was. Fact of the matter is the racks arrived a day before a trip to VT to ski, and low and behold the bolts weren't long enough. There was a misleading little chart that I saw on the thule racks that made it seem like this application fit my xterra right out of the box. Incorrect.

I would imagine this rack setup will work excellent given you have the correct hardware as it did the trick is the jimmy-rigged setup I was working with to secure it all. I'm not hugely brand loyal on racks although Thule hasn't disappointed me and this wasn't my first setup with them.

Thule products are good quality, but their proprietary everything gets annoying. No bad things to say about the seller as the product shipped and was delivered on time and was packaged great. The product itself was purchased out of necessity to retrofit some factory aero bars on my 2014 Jeep. While these were not hard to install the bars are shorter than I would like considering I need to get full sized bikes on the roof of an SUV and the narrowness of these bars do not allow much flexibility on where the bike trays sit. I'm actually swapping out the load bars for longer ones, which is an added cost I did not want to incur. Perhaps the 532 kit comes with longer bars and I missed that option, or perhaps you can by the feet only (and use your own load bars or buy them separately at a longer length), but I did not see that option and suspect Thule does like to let you shop a la carte.....Again, product was as described, just not what I needed so no one really to blame but myself I suppose. Just beware....oh and one last thing. This adapter fits onto your existing aero bar package causing it to add height to your vehicle. Be very cautious about clearance high once you install whatever carrier you want (bike, ski, etc) as this pushes your roof clearance height very close to that of a standard garage door opening!

I have a factory installed rack, so this was necessary for my thule bike rack. It fit on my original rack fine, and it holds firm. I have no doubts it will do the job holding my 2 bikes. So far it's been carrying one bike rack, I'm about to get another bike rack for my second bike for a cross country trip.

I bought these to compliment my Suburu Forester's cross bars. Thule bike racks cannot be directly mounted to Suburu's OEM cross bars--you need these adapters to do that. Unfortunately, they mount using plastic clamps that are insufficient to support heavier items. You can throw a couple bikes up there, but don't expect to haul anything more than that. To be fair, Thule markets this as a "bike rack accessory" NOT a universal mount for all Thule roof top accessories. If you want something that will support more than a pair of bikes, buy the much more expensive Thule cross bars. It's unfair to criticize them for being exactly what Thule designed them to be: a support for two bike carriers.
