5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, October 20, 2005
Bought this to replace my desktop elite also from Microsoft.Installation was simple. What I noticed right away is how precise and quick the laser mouse is.Much improvement over the intellimouse explorer 2.0.It's got a magnification button that is a nice feature as it can expand and contract. Also very comfortatable and a good fit with your hand. The keyboard is nice too although not revolutionary. It's your basic upscale type of Microsoft keyboard and what's nice about it is that the keys are white.I prefer white over black. Also the mouse and keyboard are in an attractive silver and grey.It would have been nice if they found a way to light the keys.Anyway,it's worth the price as the mouse steals the show.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pitiful quality control. Should be 5 star., December 12, 2006
I have to agree with many of the other reviews. Overall, this is a very well designed, good looking keyboard. But it has a very serious flaw that is intolerable for a keyboard costing this much. Like others have said the mouse and/or keyboard will lose connection at the drop of a hat. It is not too frequent but it is frequent enough to be unsatisfactory. And it will occur at the most inopportune time, like when I was taking a timed online test to renew a certification. The mouse dropped its connection and nearly caused me to flunk the test. The transmitter is less than 18 inches (clear path) from both the keyboard and mouse so there is no excuse. (It is now acting up as I write this review.)

This keyboard replaced a 4 year old cordless Logitech that worked perfectly until it died a sudden death. I doubt I will last that long with Microsoft at the pace I'm on now. I see now that Microsoft has come out with a Version 2 of this model so hopefully they have corrected this problem. Also in Version 2 they have returned to the standard home, end, insert, etc. format. DO NOT BUY Version 1, maybe give Version 2 a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, November 19, 2005
Terrific mouse: Very accurate and the zoom function a great tool. Keyboard has a light touch plus the white keys are easy to see in a darkened room. 5 configurable hot keys plus dedicated ones for mail, internet etc.

Works well, and I like the typing action on the keyboard. I have big hands, if you have small hands you may find them a little widespread.
