Amazon.com Product Description

The SeaLife Reefmaster 5.0 MP DC500 Underwater Digital Pro Set camera takes sharp, colorful pictures on land and under water. This fully waterproof digital camera is depth rated to 200 feet (60 meters) and features an advanced photography system known as "Shark Mode" that provide for clear, crisp shots of moving objects underwater and in sports photography on land.

Sharp Underwater Pictures With Virtually No Shutter Lag
SeaLife's exclusive "Shark Mode" camera system has been developed based on input from underwater photographers. Beneath the surface of the water, whether your diving or snorkeling, everything moves. The diver as well as sea creatures are in constant movement. Many divers using land cameras in an underwater housing reported fuzzy pictures or missed pictures due to "shutter lag," or the time between pushing the shutter button and the camera actually taking the picture. Since there is less light and less contrast in water, most land cameras that are not also designed for underwater use have a long shutter lag. (Underwater photographers have especially observed this particular problem in photographing sharks, which are gray and lack contrast, and also move along fast. Hence the term "Shark Mode.")

Shark Mode is activated by simply pushing the camera's "OK" button, which focuses on the intended subject and forces the camera to "remember" that focus range and take sharp pictures with virtually no shutter lag. In addition to Shark Mode, the automatic Sea Exposure Mode will shorten the exposure time underwater for sharper pictures.

Innovative, Compact, and Easy to Operate
This waterproof digital camera is not only more compact than most other underwater cameras, but SeaLife's designers have also made its ease of use a high priority by allowing for one-button operation and including a large 2-inch LCD and ergonomic button designs. The shirt-pocket-size DC500 is a two-part unit that includes a shock-proof tough rubber armored housing with a non-slip grip and a removable inner camera that has been expertly designed for the light conditions underwater. The removable inner camera snaps beautiful pics indoors and on land when switched to land mode.

The DC500 auto focus macro system is able to focus on subject matter as close as 2.3 inches. The 12x mega-zoom (3x optical and 4x digital) lets a diver take close-up pictures of sea creatures that are either dangerous or shy from a safe distance. The flash brightness can be easily adjusted on the camera for close-up or far distances. The DC500 also features a large, easy-to-read 2-inch LCD display, rubber-armored housing for extra durability and a non-slip grip, and a rechargeable lithium battery that delivers extra-long battery life.

What's in the box
DC500 digital camera, instruction manual, software CD, docking/charging cradle, battery, USB cable, video cable, AC adapter, international plug adapters, SL960 external flash, flash link, carrying case, care kit with anti-fog desiccant cartridges, soft case, and wrist straps for inner camera and housing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, buy something else!, March 4, 2006
I got the SeaLife DC500 proset camera & external strobe flash for Christmas. I took it on a week long dive trip to the Bahamas. First of all, the external flash almost NEVER worked, out of hundreds of shots it worked approximately 3 times, despite extensive babying, tinkering, etc. Secondly, the casing fogged up constantly, even with the included desiccant capsules, making it almost impossible to use even without the strobe. Third, it froze up WAY too frequently, causing me to miss photos from a 140' wall dive that was one of the best dives of my life. I could have taken pictures of animals that were probably "new" to science, but my camera was busy having a seizure. Now, it appears that I probably won't be able to return it because I took it underwater. It seems kind of difficult to me to find out whether an underwater camera works without taking it underwater, but maybe I'm just stupid. Bottom line- buy a disposable underwater 35 mm camera before you buy this piece of junk, you'll get better pictures with less frustration.

1.0 out of 5 stars Housing leaking, no service, February 13, 2006
By Inga Racinska (Latvia, Baltic states) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I purchased SeaLife Reef Master DC500 and went to my diving trip to Egypt. Housing of the camera started leaking already on the first day. OK, we thought, let's contact the dealer and get it repaired. BUT it appeared not to be so simple. I have sent them 4 e-mails within last 3 months, but got no reply. We don't have SeaLife service in Latvia and the responsible service in USA is just not giving any attention to our attempts to contact them. So, I guess, I'll just trash the camera and forget about SeaLife. My advice to others - DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA IF YOU DON'T HAVE SEALIFE SERVICE IN YOUR COUNTRY!

1.0 out of 5 stars DC500 Leaks, March 21, 2006
I recently purchased the DC500 to replace the Sealife Reefmaster I've had for the last 4 years. The DC500 leaked both times I used it, apparently from the lens section of the housing. It was not enough to damage the camera, but taking pictures was futile. It is being sent back to Sealife for inspection, will update on the results.
