Seeing Front 242 live in late 2005 brought back lots of great memories, as they did classics from their "Back Catalogue" years--performed with all the zeal and energy of a band basking in the glory of their accomplishments, whose sound was finally matched by the stage technology to fully realize their vision. Unfortunately this dvd, filmed at some European festival where many of the audience don't seem to be fans, or familiar at least, act like idiots. I'll never get why dvds like this get released--these festival dvds, unless its geared towards showcasing the festival itself. I want to see Front 242 live, with their "tribe", their true, actual fanbase--that's part of witnessing the live experience. Here we see a band not delving deep enough into their vast and varied catalog but instead keeping with the faster-paced, newer, uptempo stuff, to keep the clueless crowd dancing, or whatever. At one point some moron throws a bottle onstage and it was Richard 23 who actually called the person on it, offering to fight him (or her)--nobody really seems to know who did it--an unexpected, somewhat entertaining moment. Anyhow, I bought this dvd shortly after seeing 242 melt some faces in DC, where the small venue was packed with fans who "knew"--knew the classics, the mysterious, atmospheric, downtempo masterpieces like "Don't Crash" as well as the more recent , fast-paced stormers like "Modern Angel". The peaks and valleys, the old and new is what made the show so special, and 242 delivered, feeding off the crowd's energy and vice versa. Hopefully Front 242 soon release another live dvd showcasing this excellent tour, because frankly, this is OK, but doesn't represent the true Front 242 live experience, believe me.

Great live performance from 242. Quality is good and set list is nice as well. This reminded me of reboot (more 303's). I like there more classic sound which they seem to be performing mostly these days which is a good thing.

I think the title sums it up nicely. They don't do enough of their older work, especially all the nice cuts off "Official Version" and "No Comment." My biggest gripe is that it just feels like a re-hashed version of Re:Boot, with some added material from Pulse but the sound quality is utter crap, comparatively. The elaborate visuals were half the reason to go, but their immanence is lost on the DVD recording. Overall, this is a disappointing release from an amazing band.

This DVD is definitely B grade. But I like B grade. I saw Front 242 at Visage club in Orlando FL back in 1989 when F242 were still hard edged. This DVD is a mellower, more popular sounding F242. Not the viciousness and agressiveness we expected from F242 back in the late 80s and early 90s when they had a more militaristic image. I'm still glad I bought the DVD as it gave me the chance to catch up on a very good Euro-band. The rear screen projection is a very good piece of production. I interviewed Patrick Codenys (Synth player) back in '89 at Visage back stage and photographed the whole concert. If anyone wants to get a reprint from Biomutant magazine e-mail me at [...]
I agree, the highlight of the show is when Richard 23 threatens someone in the audience. He looks completely different now with hair and middle aged but still in great shape. The energy is still there. I like the live drummer as well. I went back and listened to the CD Tyranny For You and yes, F242 have mellowed.

The best part is when they start to threaten the audience. Well, actually that part was really weird, but the songs were fine, the presentation was fine, and my biggest gripe was that it's fairly short. I'd imagine that if I were a hardcore fan, I'd be more critical, but as a casual listener, this makes a great DVD to put on as background when you're just hanging out doing something else, but need a little more energy in the room than normal.

Introduced to Front 242 by my son. Different music but I like it. The musicians? make a listening experience.
