I bought this set of colored pencils to complement a Primacolor Scholar set, this one specifically for coloring those difficult to color details on my drawings. These easily sharpen to a point with a standard pencil sharpener. They don't snap on use, but I don't apply a lot of pressure on them either. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the precision coloring these pencils afford me.

This set includes only 12 Colored Pencils: Violet, Indigo Blue, Peacock Blue, Peacock Green, Grass Green, Poppy Red, Crimson Red, Canary Yellow, Orange, White, Dark Brown, and Black. These are not the same 12 colors I got with the Prismacolor Scholar set, but a close match for 9 of them with the exception of Grass Green, Poppy Red, and Crimson Red.

These pencils lay down color very well and the color holds fast. The major flaw is that the 'lead' breaks off frequently.

On the very first sharpening 1 of the pencil's, every time I got a good point, the 'lead' simply slid out and fell on the floor, until it was too short to sharpen any further.

So, right off the bat I was down to 11 colors. Over the next couple of weeks as I used them portions of the 'lead' of 3 other pencils- after sharpening- fell out as well. In the end only 6 of the pencils last and worked as they should.

At the same time I bought a set of their 'Prismacolor Thick Lead' pencils, and had an even worse time with these. Leaving me w/ only 5 pencils that held their lead.

If you happen to get a set that doesn't fall apart they just might turn out be great pencils and a good value.

I am a fan of the Verithin Colored Pencils because they are just that very thin. :-)

These are great for detail work since you get a very thing line. One word of caution is to be careful while sharpening these since they are very thin, a little bit of sharpening goes a long way, otherwise you can break the point easily.

They are long lasting so long you are careful and do not over sharpen them.

I hope you found my review helpful.

I am happy with this Prisma set. Be aware they are not the traditional Prisma pencils with smooth soft blending leads. These are harder and more study, (but you are less able to blend because of that).

I had an issue with leads breaking on another Prisma set I bought from Amazon, but these have been working fine. I wonder if it's because these leads are harder than the other set? And therefore weren't as susceptible to damage during normal shipping?

I'm crazy about these hard lead pencils. They are just what I wanted for fine lettering & detailed coloring in my Bible Journaling projects. The 12 colors are vivid and & 12 is plenty for me. Yes, they are thin, but no more thin than a regular pencil. I'm not sure why some reviewers are negative about the unsharpened pencils when they arrive --- they sharpen easily/quickly with a little cheap, portable, sharpener (regular pencils also come unsharpened). I may decide later to purchase the soft lead prismacolor pencils, but for now, these pencils meet my needs perfectly.

Prismacolor Verithin 12 pack was my first try at Prismacolors. These are great pencils. The color glides on the paper smoothly and the color is rich. I used Canson drawing paper and they worked beautifully. I did a still life of some flowers in a vase. They don't come pre-sharpened and you need to be delicate when sharpening, and only use a nice sharpener! I already had a Staedtler sharpener and it worked beautifully with these pencils and they didn't break. As with all drawing supplies, handle the pencils delicately, do not drop them or bang them around. I havn't tried Prismacolor Premier yet and I plan to buy the 12 pack in those next. I enjoy working with colored pencils, the only thing that bugs me is the graphite lines show through the pigments unless you trace over them heavily. I guess that could be solved by not drawing the picture out on the paper beforehand, or do it lightly. I sketch out the picture before I go back in and add color with the Prismacolors.

The colored pencils came as described. As prismacolor is known, the colors are great, and these pencils are great for detailed drawings. If you're used to round prismacolors, these are a little smaller and have a hexagonal barrel. I am very pleased with these pencils on all but one point--the actual point itself. It took me 3 sharpeners to find one in my house that wouldn't destroy the points, and due to that I'm giving it 4 stars. I realize the lead is soft to allow for better drawing, but it does make it hard to sharpen them. If your planning on getting these pencils, make sure you have an art pencil sharpener handy. The picture is taken after I'd sharpened the pencils. When they arrive, all are uniform.

Pros:
-Very vibrant
-Quick color laydown
-The shape of the pencils give you a good grip
-Can get nice blending through blending and patience
-Easier to control than their softer core line

Cons:
-The yellow in this set is a highlighter yellow, not good for anything but blinding you
-It is very difficult to sharpen some as the leads are not all centered correctly
-The color is always at 100% saturation no matter how lightly the lead touches the paper, making it difficult to get variations with a single color
-The leads do not come pre-sharpened
-There is only one brown

Overall, if you're one of those crafter moms or whatever, these are great. However, if you're an artist, I suggest the Derwent Studio line (slightly less saturated, but much bigger cores and much more fun to use) or getting the larger set of these.
