I have been using the Boss DB-88 metronome previously. I used that model since 1999 when I was in my high school drum line. It was a great metronome to use in a drum line as well as playing a drum set. I eventually bought my own in 2003. The DB-90 has been out for a while now - I remember wanting to get it as soon as it came out, but I figured I'd wait until my good old DB-88 stopped working.

Unfortunately, that time as come (after using my own for nearly 9 years!!!)

The DB-90 is packed with SO MANY more features compared to the DB-88. I won't get into them all here since you can find them in the production description. I'll just say that the biggest upgrade for me going from the DB-88 to the DB-90 is the amount of memory slots you get. I have been used to only having 8 slots for so long. I was always struggling to figure out which times to delete from the metronome when I needed more room. Luckily, the DB-90 comes with 50 memory slots! I no longer need to decide which times to get rid of, because I have WAY more than enough room to save all of the times that I need!

All-in-all, this metronome is a great replacement for the DB-88. I am extremely satisfied. To anyone who is looking for a metronome that will help you grow your skills, this is definitely the one. It has a great range of features that can help basic to the even most advanced players progress with playing to a click. I don't think any other metronome is as good as this... Boss knows has to produce perhaps one of the (if not, best) metronomes in the industry. I have been playing drums for 19 years to date, and I cannot recommend any other metronome as much as this one.

My vote: BUY IT - You will not be disappointed!

When my decades old Seth Thomas metronome sprung its spring, it was time to move in to the new century. Based on multiple reviews of this instrument and others, I opted for this (and I got the power supply, too, to save batteries). Even though I have not yet used all of the powerful features of this metronome, I love everything about it thus far. It is easy to use. It adjusts in multiple ways, making it fully adaptable to the way and volume level that works best for me to hear and keep the beat. After only a couple of times, I found that I can easily make any adjustments with one hand - not needing to wrangle with the metronome in order to get the setting I need. And I love the "tap" feature that lets me choose the tempo without dialing to the exact beats per second setting. I would highly recommend this fine instrument to any one who is serious about practice.

The good:

It's accurate, and the the larger play/stop button is helpful in a live situation. The jog wheel is also very helpful.
I like the different options as far as setting beats per measure although I never use them. I keep the "chime on one" slider all of the way down, as I do the triplet and the "swing" sliders. I just keep up the sliders for quarter notes, eighth notes, and volume all the way up. The most helpful tool is the on/off foot switch option. Love this. I have an old block-shaped "sustain" pedal/switch from my old keyboard that I use for the switch right beside of my kick drum pedal. Good stuff.

The not so good:

A couple of things in which you need to take note. The speaker is loud enough if you are practicing acoustic guitar unplugged or a piano. However, if you are practicing with drums or a live band situation, you need to have this amplified in some way. I have it run through our PA system and back through our AVIOM system, so it's ok. I never use the speaker. The only way the speaker would work is if you play with a set of hot rods or brushes.

This is not ideal to use in dark stage situations. Yes, there is a back-lit display, but it does NOT STAY ON...even if you have it plugged into the wall. This is terribly unfortunate if you use it live, and the stage is sort of dark.

I've had this for about a year. I use it twice a week, every week. It never leaves its music stand, it's never been dropped or abused (as a matter of fact, it still has the little clear plastic cover over the screen). With that said, it's starting to get some "personality" to it.

This is the third version of this product that I have purchased over the last 15 years. It is an excellent teaching tool for me as well as my flute students.
The talking beats, rhythmic subdivisions, meter choices, and dialing tempi make it simple to use.
I highly recommend this metronome to all teachers and musicians who can afford it.

Going to You Tube and watching the Video's on the Boss DC90 was a great deal more helpful than reading the enclosed Manuel. After watching You Tube the Manuel was easy to understand. I like the voice for keeping time that way I'm sure I stay on count with each measure. Timing has been a real problem for me and I find the Boss DC 90 very helpful . Very easy to use. I've had the Boss DC 90 for about 2 months.
