I added a standard monitor extension cable between my computer and my beautiful new NEC MultiSync 1700M+ monitor and ended up with a fuzzy, ghosting image. I replaced that cable with this and my monitor is once again absolutely sharp and clear. This is a very thick black cable, nearly twice as thick as a standard quality extension cable. It's not cheap, but there's no point in spending hundreds on a great monitor and sacrificing display quality with an economy extension cable. This cable won't let you down.

The picture Amazon currently shows for this cable is not the correct product picture for the actual item. The one in the photo shown is entirely different then the actual product you will receive and if you go to the Tripp Lite official website (TrippLite.com) you will see that the actual cable corresponding to this model (and the one you actually get) is a much more thick and industrial quality cable, unlike the one pictured. With a added ferrite shielding coil that most of you have seen on the VGA cable coming out of your monitors, this cylindrical hard black covering provides additional protection from noise that may enter the cable and disrupt the image and its quality. Other cables I tried did not have this ferrite "section" and were much thinner. Trying several extension cables that were much more flimsy feeling and thin including a Belkin SVGA cable, I found they all caused ghosting and degraded image quality. Unlike those this Tripp Lite cable has worked perfectly. This is a great price compared to the $20+ or so retail stores charge for inferior quality extension gold cables.

I bought this to extend my KVM cables, and it's as good as Tripp Lite always is. The only issue: the screw-on barrel nuts (provided; used to connect this cable to another cable because both of those cables have male thumbscrews) aren't long enough to allows both sets of thumbscrews to bottom out, resulting in the cables not being held tight to each other. So far no problem, they are staying together from friction, but I'd feel better about it if I never even had to worry about it because the screws worked as intended. And why wouldn't a "monitor extension cable" have the right hardware on it?

As expected, I bought this to position the monitor further away from the old venerable Dell P3-600 I have in my living room hooked up to my A/V system. Sometimes I need to see things on an actual monitor and this allows me to put the monitor where I want it as opposed to putting it where the existing cable allows me. It does exactly what it's intended to. No compromises that I can foretell.

There's no signal loss that I can notice. The picture is rock-solid, there seems to be no limitations on resolutions available, and the colors are as they were without this cable. I'm using this to play old DOS games on this system and there's no issues whatsoever.

My time in with this product is low, but it seems very well-built and sturdy. As such, if there's any changes in performance, I will be updating this review, but I don't anticipate needing to do that.

A few side-notes :
- Some people have mentioned needing to tape the connectors together so the female end on the extension cable connects more sturdily to the male end on the monitor cable. My package contained 2 screw posts that can be attached to the female end of the extension such that the male end of the monitor cable can attach better to it. These worked fine and, additionally, the connector has a good amount of tightness/friction to keep the connector in place even without these. But with them there's virtually no way the connector can "just pull out".

- The connector has a lifetime warranty advertised on the package. This may not be an issue or deal-breaker to anyone, but I figure I'll mention it for whatever it's worth to you, the reader of this review.

- My review is for a 6' cable. Results may be different with longer length cables. Refer to other review for more than 6'.

Overall I'm quite satisfied. Quality product.

This is the third extension cable that I have tried, Belkin and one sold by MarginMart here on Amazon were the other two. Neither of these would allow my monitor to work at it's full resolution capability, so I ended up eating them (not worth it to send back) and they are in my surplus cables box now. The Tripp Lite does allow my monitor to work at its full resolution capability of 1680 x 1050 DPI under both Windoz and Linux. Kudos to Tripp Lite for also including a set of barrel hex nuts to allow one to securely connect two cables together, should both cables have male screws. I for one really appreciate such thoughtfulness on a manufactures part to make the customer's experience really successful! Kinda a rare treat these days to have all the misc hardware necessary, included with a product! 5 stars!

Not bad for price for only if used for a short term solution. My screen colors were severely impacted. All the colors have a slight yellowish tint when I use this cable. Since I only need the extension for one or 2 hours three times per month it is not bad. I suppose if you were good at color mixing, as in adjusting the color mix for your video card, you could make it work and get rid of the yellow.

For my situation - skype lessons where I need to have my keyboard mouse, camera, and monitor moved form the desktop to the floor for a quick lesson for an hour, than move them back to the desktop, it it easier to just add the cable for the lesson and just deal with the slight yellowish color for an hour.

Sometimes adding the cable changes my screen resolution, but that is an easy and fast fix. Compared to buying a laptop for my skype lessons, this is far far cheaper so for me it works. Plus my monitor is pretty big so a laptop would be a smaller screen as well.

From the reviews, it appears this cable is good with some hardware combinations, OK with some hardware combos, and no so good with others. I suppose it all depends on the monitor and video card combination. If you add the cable cost plus shipping it is a pretty cheap gamble. I probably only spent about $30 total in video and USB extensions so am pleased despite the slight color issue.
