Using a capo on a classical guitar can be difficult -- the neck is wide, and thick. Intonation suffers, and the bass strings tend to buzz. The Planet Waves NS Classical Guitar Capo solved these problems. Because it is tightened onto the neck by a screw action, it always pushes the strings down against the neck straight.

Classical guitars are also light weight; this capo is made of aluminum and is also quite light so it doesn't change the feel of the guitar in your hands. It has a sleek, low profile and therefore doesn't interfere with left hand fingering as can be the case with spring capos.

Some players feel it takes too long to put it on the guitar or object to the fact that it requires both hands. I don't find that to be the case, presumably you're reasonably coordinated or you wouldn't attempt to play classical guitar. Yes, you'll need to use both hands, but ultimately the Planet Waves NS is a quicker install because it works correctly the first time. The worst thing is starting to play a song and realizing one's capo isn't getting the job done.

Capos aren't used too extensively in classical guitar music, but you still need one in your case. But if you're like me and also like to play your classical for finger style folk or pop music (esp. 'Americana') you should get one of these.

Now I want one for my steel string guitars too.

I bought the Planet Waves Guitar Capo in black the other day, and it works great!

I did a lot of shopping around because I wanted a good capo for my acoustic electric guitar, and when I came upon this one I liked the style.

BENEFITS:
-The Capo is screw on from the bottom, so that means you can adjust how tight it is on the strings (So you can barre chords or just silence strings).
-The black looks great, and the material is nice- I don't think it could scratch the guitar neck unless you wore off the thick padding.
-This could go either way, but the capo is nice and small. I was a bit surprised when I got it, but it works just fine. Would probably be easy to lose if you have a messy place though!

DRAWBACKS:
You can't really mount the capo on the headstock, even if you try to screw it on. The only way I can figure out to keep it on is to clamp both the top tuning key and the headstock. (Not recommended of course)

OVERALL:
This is a great capo. It's built well, does what it needs to do, and it looks nice. Like I said, my only gripe is that it doesn't fit on the headstock very well. Definitely recommended!

This is a great capo- its easy to use and the build quality is top notch. It easily holds down frets even in the higher registers and the fact that the tension is adjustable is a major plus- you can put the least amount of tension on the strings, which is better for your guitar.
I was considering the more expensive G7th Capo but am glad I stuck to this- I can't imagine any capo being technically superior. There's no reason to spend more $$ than this on a capo- it does the job flawlessly, is solidly built, and is reasonably priced.
It has rubber padding in the right places which allows me to use it on my high end Spanish made flamenco guitar without any worries.

I highly recommend this product

Capos are one of those things that practically every picker has an opinion about - and a preference. Bluegrass guitarists tend to want to play in no more than three or four different chord positions. (In fact, many never bother learning beyond those - why bother when you've got a capo?!?!?) In fairness the bluegrass style of picking seems to work better when played in certain positions - a "G-Run" works best in, you guessed it, G position. Thus using a capo for A, B-flat, B, and so on allows us to get that same sound on up the neck.

A lot of guitar players like to try every new gadget or gizmo that comes their way - even if theirs work just fine. You're apt to find an assortment of picks, tuners, and capos in my guitar case. So, my rating on THIS capo is based on what I personally want in a capo. It's probably not the best one I own, but for the price and ease of use I have to rank it high. There are other capos that work well in "clamping" the strings down, but this one just somehow suits me better. The three main things I look for in a capo are: accuracy, ease of use, and a low profile.

This capo has been fairly accurate for me. In tightening, it exerts an even amount of pressure across all the strings which lessens (but doesn't necessarily eliminate) the need for re-tuning. I like to be able to reach up and move it with one hand (the spring-type capos are good for this but you have no adjustment in the amount of pressure they apply...) and with very little practice I was able to loosen, move, and re-tighten with ease. With my big hands, I need all the room I can get behind the fret - getting a B7 chord is just almost possible with this one.

I've had my hands on a lot of capos lately, trying to narrow them down to which is the best. The result? I'm convinced that none are perfect, and all are somewhat subject to opinion.

That being said, the Planet Waves NS capo made its way on to my short "best of" bunch. It's my clear favorite for the screw clamp type.

When you first hold it in your hand, it seems like it's going to be too lightweight to get the job done. In short, it's not. The position of the screw is at just the right spot for convenient fine tuning, yet is out of the way while playing. There are other screw clamp capos out there for which the screw is not as perfectly positioned.

Planet Waves was more than generous with the material that comes in contact with the guitar. The portion that holds down the strings is plenty wide and long enough for adequate coverage without being too bulky. The underside has a nice wide surface area and almost seems to "auto seat" when placing it on the guitar. There is no metal touching your guitar at all when placed.

I found minimal string pulling with this capo. For the tuning test, only the low E string was slightly detuned (sharp) when fine tuned to the sweet spot. I also like that you can fine tune the tension while the capo is in place. Some adjustable capos need to be removed to adjust the tension.

Cons - You can't place the capo one handed (not really a negative in my book, but others like that convenience), slight detuning of the low E string, and you can't really firmly clamp it to your headstock when not in use (again, not a deal breaker for me, but others may prefer the convenience).
