Format: Audio CD
Even though I love 'em, Chilliwack was a band that seemed to have a hard time defining themselves through their music. This is in no way a criticism of leader Bill Henderson, an incredible song-writer, but the myriad of production techniques and fads that seemed to evolve with each Chilliwack album beginning with Breakdown in Paradise. Wanna Be A Star doesn't sound quite like Breakdown. Opus X sounds nothing like Wanna Be A Star. And if you love Opus X (as I do) and expect more of the same with Look In Look Out, you'll be sorely disappointed. This last album of new songs is complete with the mid-80's music cliche's that make that era less-than-memorable. Sometimes it's good to try a fresh sound. But when your previous album is a [...] rocker, and you follow it up with this, it leaves listeners scratching their heads. I can understand that it's hard to maintain musical consistency when the band's lineup changes every couple of years, but this is such a departure from the previous album it's hard to digest.

Buy this album and listen to it, imagining each song stripped down to a couple of guitars, bass, and drums. Then you might be able to appreciate the music. For the serious Chilliwack collector only.
