This is one of the best albums i ever heard. Period.
It is so full of beauty and finesse, so delicate and charming, till it is almost impossible to bear it.

The ensemble La Gioia Armonica is new to me, and i'm so happy that i discoverd them. To judge by this recording alone, the alto (male) singer, Jurgen Banholzer, is clearly on the top step of the top echelon of the alto singers today, and i wander how it is that i never heard about him. His singing is so smooth and intricate, so melodious and exciting, so authoritative.

The same can be said about the other participants, and especially about the wondrous sounds that Margit Ubellacker extricate from the dulcimer and about the passionate but subtle cellist, Emilia Gliozzi.

The recording by RAMEE is very good, and so the beautiful package and the helpful notes.

This cd has many different works by Caldara, and is like a greatest hits or intro to him. Definitely worth the money ! Quality professional artists with convivial talent.

Caldara is a very underrated composer. His vocal works are outstanding including his Christmas Cantata (Vaticini di Pace).

Parts of Sinfonias Nos. 5 & 6, and his Opera "The Card Game" are on this cd, including cantata for contralto, violin, violoncello & continuo, and two different sonatas for cello solo & continuo. The first track is my favorite of the cd, Sedecia, oratorio: Aria. Ahi! Come quella un tempo Città di popol piena (Larghetto)! Such full sound with only TWO instruments and one voice!

None of the other 700 classical cd's I own are as unique as this. Some of this cd sounds as beautiful as the music in some video games (Zelda, and Final Fantasy).

This trio creates a musical tattoo seared into my psyche equalled only by Liszt's "Pastoral" from "Years of Pilgrimage #1". It gives me wonderful appreciation for music, art, and mankind at its best. I feel like I would want them played at my funeral.

Good day friends!

SILVERY SOUNDING DULCIMER, VIBRANT VIOLONCELLO COMBINE WITH THE EXPRESSIVE VOICE OF JURGEN BANHOLZER TO CREATE A TASTY LISTENING TREAT!

During the 2nd half of the 18th century it was not uncommon for various instruments to make a brief appearance in the ranks of the orchestra. Instruments such as the oboe da caccia and the chalumeau as well as the peculiar tromba marina. Case in point was the pantaleon, a large dulcimer invented by Pantaleon Hebenstreit(1667-1750), who became a virtuoso on the instrument for which some Dresden composers wrote obligato parts. Even though Ramee records sub-totaled this disc 'Music for the Pantaleon', the music is not connected with this instrument, which had only a short limited existence, nor as far as we know Caldara had no conncection either.

The modern chromatic tenor dulcimer from Salzburg seems to offer the best possibility of hearing the sound of the pantaleon-at least its form with metal strings. It is used on this recording in the two arias originally written for the pantaleon "Ah,Quella un tempo sitta di popol piena..."(Ah, how is it that a city once full of people...)and "Liberta cara e gradita" (Liberty dear and welcome), and in some additional pieces; in this way the different continuo-like possibilities of usage are exploited. A most interesting example is in the cantata "Vicino a un rivoletto" in which the violin part has been arranged for dulcimer. This is fascinating to hear and incorporates an ongoing dialogue between the dulcimer and the voice; very entertaining indeed! This occurs in the first aria of Vicino which is "Zeffiretto amorosetto"(Little Zephry full of love).
