Had to return it.

Description claims "5/16 In. square drive … accepts a 9/32 In. square spindle", but the square drive on the one I received was too small. I measured everything multiple times to make sure I wasn't at fault. Square drive was 9/32 In, which would have been for a 1/4 in spindle I guess? Very annoying.

Seemed well built though.

WOW! These things are a godsend. My house came with ridiculously expensive Baldwin doorknob sets, that cost around $120 apiece. When the latch part started separating and the doorknobs got sluggish, an online retailer wanted $35 APIECE just to replace the latch. I ordered these because they looked like they would fit, and lo and behold, the dropped in perfectly and tightened up every single door I put them in. The fit on these is exceptional, there is zero "slop" in the doorknob's turn. For $6 these are an absurd steal, I couldn't find anything else close to these. They even came with new chrome strike plates and slightly longer screws that give you an extra 1/4" of bite if your wooden doors are chewed up like mine are.

I'm ordering 10 more right away.

Met my expectations and I loved the price. Used these along with mortise trim plates and tubular latch kits to replace various mismatched doorknobs in our 100 year old home. Very easy to install, the only draw back was the loss of the ability to lock the doors. Overall I like the cleaner look that matches our home's age.

Excellent repair part for the "old" style glass knob door handles. The dimensions for the rectangular latching-bolt plate (silver piece in the photo, but not the striker plate) are 1" x 2-1/4" which was smaller than the original. So not an exact fit for our use, but a good way to retain the older style door hardware.

Contrary to a reviewer above, I found the spring to be stronger than any others I have used. This is good, so that the latch will spring back out, even when there may be some friction at the knobs. It seems sturdy. Time will tell. We use them on stairwell doors in a high rise apt bldg, and they get a lot of use.

The wrong product is shown. The brass color is correct but the mechanism is what's shown with the chrome version (Prime-Line Products E 2440 Mortise Passage Door Latch Bolt, Square Drive, Chrome Plated). See included photo for the exact product. Perfect fit for old lock where the turning mechanism broke in both directions keeping it from unlatching. Great price as well. Home Depot has them online only, at the same price but the shipping time is too long for my needs. This one arrived in two days via Prime membership. Buying a few more to replace throughout an apartment and to keep handy in case others fail.

The build quality of the latch is excellent. This is why I gave it two stars. The only problem is that the opening for the door latch shaft is slightly smaller than 5/16" and the shaft doesn't fit.

I ordered this because the length from the edge of the door to the center of the spindle hole was correct. Imagine my surprise when I got it and discovered the distance between the center of of the knob mounting holes was too far apart! Useless waste of money!
