Product Description

I get a kick out of hearing people argue over the superiority of their favorite rock bands because they get so very serious. And that was the impetus for this story. I wanted to create characters who could quote heavy metal lyrics with a straight face. The setting came to me first: early 80’s, air guitar, bonfires, and a Chevy Nova with a C.B.P.A. system. I found my characters quickly after that: a drunken bookworm and an insecure metal–head, about to fall in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Motorhead, January 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a well-thought-out glimpse into the mind of a young girl, the intricacies of family, friends, siblings and lovers, and reads almost like poetry. I'd love to see something at novel length from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story, February 5, 2006
Motörhead is a wonderful story. I love the young narrator, how she's carried her pure and brave heart from childhood to adolescence. She ventures into the world like a teenaged Quixote, tilting at parents and peers, her Rosinante a Chevy Nova.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story--great new way to read stories!, January 22, 2006

I really enjoyed reading Susan Henderson's story Motorhead--it's a lovely story with interesting characters, and the writing is great, without being precious.

I also love the new way to read stories. The PDF and HTML version of Motorhead both look fantastic. With the IPod everybody's realising that when you want to hear a song you don't necessarily want to buy the whole CD, and this feels like the same kind of experience--I felt like I was in control and able to read exactly what I wanted, not what some publishing company decided to shove down my throat.

I'm a big reader of books but I also like the idea of downloading great stories, like a good micro-brewery beer, one at a time and really savouring them--without feeling I have to plow through a whole collection.

Having said that, I'd love to see what Henderson does with a novel-length work . . .
