Useful if you drill metal. I don't that often, but have been a little bit of late for a few projects. These are well made center punches and should last - but you probably know that and are looking for it if you are buying starrett stuff. It costs a bit extra, but with proper care (keep some oil or rust protectant on them) they should outlast you. The metal is a very hard high-carbon steel. So far they haven't deformed at all.

Like their pin punches, the Starrett center punches are the best I've used. I have both Starrett and Mayhew pin and center punches and IMO the Starretts are superior. I'm not sure why Starrett punches are not more readily available, but you've found them.

Built to last center punches. I only needed one of the sizes provided here, but I have been very happy with my Starrett pin punches for gunsmithing needs and figured this larger set couldn't hurt to have around my home shop for occasional use. These center punches are quality made and I don't see me needing another set ever. The tools themselves are stronger than I will ever need.
