Not sure why the ALL CAPS review below is so dramatic. I have two basset hounds -- long, heavy, large breed dogs -- and both of them use this with no issues. It assembles easily and the cover fits over it fine.

Yes, it is lightweight (which the product description tells you, so that should be no surprise) so yes, if a dog wanted to play with it as a toy, they could. Here's a thought: Don't let it do that!

While it is lightweight, it has no-skid pads on the bottom that hold it steady while the dog is climbing it. Even on hardwood floors, which is what I have in my bedroom. My 60 lb basset hounds climb up it with no problems, no slipping. I spent a few minutes teaching them how to use it, and they're fine.

The only problem I really have with it is that it is pretty low when assembled, only three steps (the packaging and pictures on TV often show the 4-stair version) so if you have a taller bed or couch, you would want to buy the additional 4th stair and cover. The package I bought included an order form to do that inside of it, so that's fairly easy, though I do think that the manufacturer should offer that as an accessory that you can buy through the retailers (like Amazon or Target) just as it sells the regular product.

Ultimately, you get what you pay for. This is a pretty inexpensive product with average quality -- you aren't getting a fine piece of furniture, but I have NOT found it in unsafe or defective in any way. It functions fine. However, if you're looking for something super heavy and solid and not lightweight/portable, then this is NOT the item for you. Go ahead and shell out the extra $50 for the big wooden steps. There are a ton of those on Amazon.

2 happy Chihuahuas here will testify this is a nifty product. 3-step version is fine for average chair or sofa (get the 4th step for a bed) - easy to put together and sturdy enough for toy or medium breeds.

We bought two of the 4-steps about a year ago and are buying two more for our three shih tzus. The steps are lightweight, sturdy (we break them down and take them on road trips for use in the hotels/motels). They are easily assembled and disassembled. The girls have had no problems using the steps and one of them likes to hide under the set in the family room for her afternoon naps. We're buying more for grandma's house, etc. Our dogs use these steps many, many times a day and we're pleased how well the product holds up to what has to be called 'excessive' use by our two one-year-olds playing tag hours on end, using these steps. A good product at a good price. We're buying more.

I already own one set of Telebrands Doggy Steps, which I like. So I ordered another here. What I recieved was not the same but rather an inferior copycat. I was so disappointed. It arrived in an unmarked box, no branding, no labeling at all. The assembly instructions were on a piece of paper photocopied from another leaflet advertising "dog stairs". Not the same item at all. The Doggy Steps from tv are sturdy, well made and hold up well. These were cheap, flimsy and the cover kept bunching up. Disappointed that they tried to trick me here. Don't fall for it! There is a big difference between the original and this imposter. Amazon should yank this third party seller from the site for their misleading claims.

We recently moved into a home with all wood floors, even in the bedrooms. Our pups have always had carpeted bedrooms to give them better traction to jump on the bed and the wood floors were making both jumping up and down more difficult for them. To make matters even more challenging, when we moved we purchased a new mattress set that, at the top, is 26 inches off the ground. There is a gap between the top of the stairs and the top of the bed, but the pups run up the steps onto the bed just like regular stairs, so there was not a need to purchase stairs that were 26 inches tall (and easily would have been $100+).

To put that in perspective, we have Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix (Flapjack) and 2 Pomeranian's (Romeo 7 pounds, Cupid 11 pounds). The tallest one stands about 8 inches at the shoulders. In addition to the pups just being small and the bed being tall, Flapjack is around 13 and has a heart murmur and a sliding patella (knee cap). Cupid is a very insecure jumper on the most solid of surfaces (unless your waving a treat then he can jump buildings in a single bound). Finally, little Romeo is a mamma's boy that is totally oblivious to how delicate he can be. If mom gets up in the middle of the night he has to follow her and make sure everything is kosher. He flies off the bed and sometimes slips on the wood floor with a Klunk sound.

We decided on the Telebrands Doggy Steps for several reasons:

1. We thought they were 18.5 inches tall (actually was long and only 12 inches tall). Will pay closer attention when we upgrade to wooden steps next year as budget allows.
2. They had a removable washable cover
3. The price was $26.00 on Amazon +Free 2 day Shipping

I haven't really had any downsides to these steps.

These stairs work great for my 10 lbs dachshund. If you have a CVS pharmacy near you, you can get this exact product for $9.99!! What a deal, I bought three of them, living room, bedroom and family room. Now my little girl has access to all the comfy spots in our house :)
