Turned a pair of these into panniers for my motorcycle. Beefy, water proof (well, until I put holes in them) and aesthetically pleasing. Note though, that the pictured shoulder strap IS NOT INCLUDED. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, since I wasn't going to use them anyhow, but just make sure you realize that.

I actually want the shoulder strap, I just cannot find how to contact Amazon to let them know this was missing vs. returning it. It has to be hidden on this site somewhere! The measurements did not indicate direction so me hoping it was taller than wide led to be less than excited as I had to cut the foam to use it in stacks vs. long vertical holes which would have been stupid simple. It is noisy with the rings on the side knocking about, I guess I need to take the bolt cutters to those as I will not be purchasing the marine attachment.

All Pelican cases are solid, but the top opening geometry of the 1430 makes it especially sturdy. The pick-to-fit foam inserts are supplied in three layers, so you can custom fit whatever equipment you need to protect, and with this case if it gets there at all it will get there intact. Lock capability accommodates full size padlocks, so your stuff is secure as well.

Tradeoff - it's not especially lightweight. Not super heavy, but not negligible - allow for the case weight if, for example, you are loading your own plane.

I'd definitely buy this one again.

The Pelican 1430 case comes stuffed of various layers of full of Pick & Pull foam. I didn't need the foam for my use but Amazon had the best price I could find for this case.
I will use the case to replace a hard picnic basket which I take camping; this case has just the right dimensions for that purpose. Bet Pelican never thought of that when they designed it.
As the other reviewer points out, the strap and file folders shown in the pictures are options. It does not include a strap (nor could I picture a use for a strap as it has a sturdy carrying handle).
