I usually do not spend a lot of time thinking about trash bags. I'm just going to throw them away the first time I use them. Spending a little extra for a name brand like Glad usually keeps trash bags well in out of mind since they do their job a little better than the off-brands.

The advertisements for the ForceFlex bags led me to believe these would be more resilient that other bags and handle their loads better with less chance of tearing. The wrinkled appearance creates the illusion that they will readily stretch to accommodate bulky items or a bit of over stuffing.

What I immediately found out is they are smaller than the un-wrinkled bags I had been using. They do not completely fill the average 13 gallon kitchen trash can. I thought, "No problem, they'll stretch as they fill up." Unfortunately I was wrong. I don't like to be wrong, but too bad, I was.

The bags don't stretch and the slightest pressure can rip a hole in them. I punched holes in them more than once just putting at new one in the trash can. It took 3 or 4 before I could tie one up without punching a hole in it somewhere. I still get a tear in about 1 in 4. If you need the bag to stay intact for garbage pickup, be very careful stuffing these in your curbside container.

On the positive side the drawstrings work very well and I have not had one pull free from the bag when tying it up. These bags work fine if you have cans a little smaller than 13 gallons and don't tend to fill them all the way up.

*** Update Feb 2014 ***
Over the last few months I have run across a few more of these bags and used them without issue. From more recent experience and comments from others the problems with the original batch may have been fixed in later production runs.

Bag doesn't tear. But, drawstring makes it usuable. The drawstring tears out of the slot that makes it work. So when you have to tie it, you essentially have to make an overhand know. You might was well go back to twist ties.

I wasted $30 on these bags!!!!

These are more expensive than the bargain brand, but they are well worth it. I have never had the bag break because that weaving material in the middle of the bag allows for the sharpest of points to push out the bag without a tear. I have never had a problem with the drawstring. I am the kind of consumer who will buy the store brand/cheapest product if it is a bargain, but with this product I feel the extra cost is worth it. No garbage spilled all over the garage floor.

Rarely in life do we have such easy choices - if you're looking for tall kitchen bags that won't break, go for the Hefty and not for the Glad. (That's the same conclusion Consumer Reports came to in their March 2010 issue.) I bought two boxes of the heavy duty Hefty bags and they never broke. Then (by mistake) I bought a box of the Glad bags, since the package looked similar to the Hefty bags. EVERY SINGLE BAG BROKE - either the sides ripped when I was stretching it over the wastebasket or the straps broke when I pulled it out again and tried tying it up to put in the trash. I was almost to the point of writing a nasty note to the manufacturer complaining that their quality has gone shockingly downhill when I noticed these were made by Glad, not Hefty. If these bags were cars, they'd all be recalled!
