Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The PowerShot A700 combines top specifications with innovative technology to transport your photography to an exciting new level. You'll capture superb detail and subtlety with the 6.0-megapixel CCD and 6x optical zoom lens. Enjoy expanded low-light shooting ability using ISO speeds up to 800, and see it all on a large 2.5-inch LCD screen.

The PowerShot A700 packs a vast array of additional high-end features into a remarkably compact space, including:

  • Canon's DIGIC II image processor and iSAPS technology for fast, superb results
  • Accurate focusing with FlexiZone AF/AE1 and 9-point AiAF1
  • ISO 800 shooting
  • Widescreen (16:9) stills recording
  • 30-frame-per-second VGA movie recording
  • 2.5-inch LCD with Night Display and Grid Line Display

With its powerful optical performance and rich feature set, the PowerShot A700 is the new flagship of the A-series range.

    Optics
A 6x optical zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 35 to 210mm) delivers crisp, bright results that make the very most of the camera's 6.0-megapixel resolution. In a first for a 6x optical zoom digital compact camera, the PowerShot A700 features a real-image optical viewfinder, allowing fast framing and precise manual focusing without the LCD.

The camera also has optional wide (0.7x) and telephoto (1.75x) converter lenses to extend the focal length range, for an effective 15x optical zoom. It is also compatible with optional close-up lenses for detailed macro photography. (Wide, telephoto, and close-up lenses are optional accessories and are not included; they must be purchased separately.)

    Designed for creativity
With 19 shooting modes, the PowerShot A700 is superbly equipped for artistic photography. Creative Zone modes on each camera include full Manual mode, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Speed Priority. Special Scene modes--such as Night Snapshot and Snow--assist with tricky lighting conditions, while Color Accent and Color Swap modes enable dramatic color effects to be applied to both images and movies direct from the camera. Users can record smooth 30-frame-per-second VGA quality movies of up to 1 GB with sound or create 60-frame-per-second QVGA clips for sharp slow-motion playback. A handy Compact mode enables shooting of small format clips of up to 3 minutes for easy sharing via email. My Colors can also be applied to movies before shooting.

The PowerShot A700 features a new Widescreen mode (2816 x 1584 recording pixels) for capturing still images in 16:9 format--perfect for viewing on widescreen television or printing wide photos with a Selphy Compact Photo Printer.

    Low-light shooting
The addition of ISO 800 gives photographers the flexibility to shoot without flash indoors and in other low-light environments. It also enables shooting at faster shutter speeds, increasing image stability at full zoom and reducing unwanted motion blur. The PowerShot A700 features a new High ISO Auto setting that automatically sets exposure using the higher range of ISO sensitivities. The advanced DIGIC II processor minimizes noise at higher ISO levels.

    Instant photo prints
The PowerShot A700 is PictBridge compliant for instant direct printing to compatible printers, including all Canon Selphy CP Compact Photo Printers and most Canon PIXMA printers. Users can also print ID photos and stills images from movies when connected to a Selphy CP Compact Photo Printer. (Printers not included--must be purchased separately.)

The handy Print/Share button on each camera allows one-touch printing and hassle-free uploads to Windows or Macintosh systems. A new Print menu makes it easier than ever to organize print jobs direct from the camera.

The menu system on this camera also features support for 23 languages, including Arabic.

    What's in the Box
PowerShot A700 body, AA-size alkaline battery x 2, MutiMediaCard MMC-16M, wrist strap WS-200, Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM, USB interface cable IFC-400PCU, AV cable AVC-DC300

5.0 out of 5 stars This time, I got it right, May 7, 2006
I've only had the camera for a couple weeks, however it was pretty obvious from the first pictures I took, these are quality crisp photograps. I'm writing this review because I'm beginning to appreciate the reviews from other customers when I buy things. I was in the market for a new digital camera because the one I had accidentally went for a swim. I had a 3 MP kodak easyshare from 2002. I was generally satisfied, it took decent pictures, definitely easy to use. So, this time I thought I'd stick with kodak, just upgrade the MP and get a smaller camera. I bought the V603. To be fair, it's small, probably too small trying to work the buttons. Outside the pictures are pretty good, inside, two words, horrible, and useless. I called kodak, they walked me through changing around the settings as I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, nope, still bad. It was unacceptable to me so I returned the camera, paid the restocking fee.

Anyway, after reviewing a bunch of different brands, sizes, etc, I purchased this one. Very, very satisfied. Particularly with the picture quality (after all that's the whole purpose of a camera anyway, right?) Better then expected. So far, pretty straight forward to use, I'll confess i've only kept it on automatic settings. I put my daughter on the swing, I was facing the sun and took some pictures to put it to the test. Awesome, they looked like perfect still pictures. My wife couldn't believe she was moving in the picture.

So, it's not a pocket/compact camera, or whatever you call it, although it's still fairly small. At this point, I wouldn't want to get a smaller camera and compromise the picture quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Value ! Many Features ! Great Performance!, March 22, 2006
Many more features than other cameras in the same same category and price.

I have been seaching for a while & this camera met all my needs. Could not find any other camera in this category will all these great features at $350.

1.) High optical zoom 6x Optical- most others only 3x to 4x.
    2.) High Megapixels at 6MP - most others are 4 to 5MP.
3.) Great (short) shutter lag response. Very little delay.
4.) Many shooting modes - Manual mode, Aperture Priority and Shutter Speed Priority, Widescreen Panorama, & others.
5.) Great in low light - ISO 800, faster shutter speeds
    6.) Large LCD
    7.) Very compact
8.) Easy to use. No hassel.

The combined 6MP resolution and 6 x optical with all other features is ahead of others.

I have used the camera thoroughly and its' performance lives up to my expecatations.

Going to be a very competative camera and top seller.

Nice job Canon. You have raised the bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use...Lots of Features, July 5, 2006
I opened the box, put in the batteries and the memory card and took my first pictures. It was that easy. Then I started looking at the many, many features this camera has. I was blown away. The first time user can use it just by turning it on and pointing and shooting. The experienced user can set shutter speeds, f-stops, do panoramic pictures, and many, many more things. The battery life is amazing. I have used other digital cameras, but this is the best I've ever seen or used. The fact that it has 6 MP is just awesome. When I plugged the camera into my 32 inch TV, I saw no pixels at all. The 6x optical zoom is also wonderful. I attended a community event with lots of children, and I was able to zoom in on children clear across the park and still get good close-up photos. I am entirely satisfied with my purchase, and owe a lot of it to the reviews I read on Amazon.com.
