Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

Top Customer Reviews

Pros:
- Was an upgrade from my now decade old 4 card memory reader.
- Plug and pray, erm, play!
- Solid and simple build
- Power light on card reader is on as long as there is main power
- Compatible with a very wide range (most) of media types

Cons:
- Cornfirmed will not read SmartMedia
- Can only read 1 card at a time (ex. Can't read/see a SD and a MicroSD card at the same time)
- Power light on card reader is on as long as there is main power
- Slots are tricky to get small cards into (SD, MicroSD)
- (Could be good or bad) No documentation, software, or support. It either works or it doesn't; generic drivers.

The card reader is... "OK." Compared to others that are out there, it was the right price (especially free since it was an X-mas present), and didn't have another 50 USB ports to fill up with dust. I already have 12 external USB ports, didn't need more!

The power light is blue, R/W light is white which is pretty cool. The power light is BRIGHT, the previous reviews aren't an exaggeration. Think LED keychain light. The other "feature" is that the power light is on at all times as long as the system has power; even if the machine is powered "off" but you still have the main power on (plugged in and/or with the PSU switch on) then the power light of the card reader will be on.

The slots on the card reader are tricky. More than once I've almost pushed a MicroSD card in between the card slot and the faceplate, and into the body of the reader! Just be sure you line up the card straight and watch for the white LED to turn on before running it home.

I purchased this to use in a newly built computer. Plugged it into the USB header on the motherboard, and Vista it assigned it 4 drive letters with no drivers needed. So far I've only used the SD slot and the USB port, both work fine.

It would be nice if you could disable the slots you don't need, but no multi reader offers this. All in all, a great bargain.

This little unit works like a charm. I periodically use the SD, Micro SD and xD slots but I use the USB port more than anything.

I bought it since the case I use (an old full size tower) did not have front USB ports or a card reader. I also bought it because other similar readers did not have a USB port and this one does (a plus).

Keep in mind:

1.The "power cord" as it is called in the description is actually a USB header cable which attaches to a USB header in your mother board. Make sure you have one available on your motherboard to plug this thing into. Also the cable is kind of short so hopefully your USB header is not too far away.
2. This unit will create 4 removable disk in your windows system. If you look in your Windows Explorer you will see 4 removable drives created after plugging this thing in. This might or might not screw up your drive listings depending on how you have your PC set up. I manually reconfigured each drive so the drive letters are up in the alphabet so as not to mess up my other drive letter.
3. It has an LED in the front to indicate when a slot is active (red=nothing plugged in, green=one of the slots is active. Problem is that this light does not turn off and is very bright. Fortunately my case has a door which I keep closed and the light does not bother me.

I love this unit and almost got a 2nd one in order to have a 2nd USB port but I opted for another card with USB/Firewire instead.
Works for my needs.

Other than the addition of a USB port (which is definitely welcome), the Sabrent "grossly inflated number-in-one" reader is basically the same "cheapest you can get me" reader that every store sells.

It isn't particularly fast. It doesn't look particularly nice. It isn't built particularly well. The only thing that's especially notable, is that the 3.5" device isn't sized properly. In no less than three cases (Antec, Silverstone, and Thermaltake), the reader had to be balanced by screws in the bay of the cases that weren't tool-less to be even. On the tool-less Thermaltake case, the reader is just small enough that it'll pop out of the retaining clip if you're not extra gentle.

Since the reader itself is so mediocre, there's no reason to put up with the unfortunate manufacturing problem.

It seems to work okay. It is very light weight, but seems solid enough once mounted in my computer. The slots in the faceplate line up fine. It reads memory cards as it should. There's really not much to say. The read speed seems adequate, but this certainly is not a UHS card reader. Running at USB2.0 speeds, it should get a maximum of 60MBps (480Mbps). It is copying files from my SDHC card around half that (30 MBps). Copying files from that same UHS-1 card in a UHS reader, I can pull 40-45 MBps. If it copied files closer to the full USB 2.0 speeds, then I might give it five stars. Because it does seem to run at about half the bus speed, I had to take a star off.

I haven't tested the other slots yet. I don't have some of the card types. I also will probably never use the USB port. I already have four others on the front of this computer. I really only bought this for the SD card slot. The micro SD and CF card slots may come in handy too. I don't expect any difference in read speeds from the other slots.
