Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Set up your own home or small office communications system with this VTech 5.8 GHz cordless phone package, which includes the i5857 base and phone and the i5803 accessory handset with charger stand. Both phones utilize the 5.8 GHz frequency and digital spread spectrum technology to provide clear, accurate reception with less interference than traditional 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz phones. Caller ID/call waiting compatible, both handsets have a 50-number caller ID memory; caller information is display on both the base and handset LCDs. A separate 50-name-and-number phone directory helps you keep track of important contacts.

You can select between eight ring tones and 12 musical ringers, while the supplied audio patch cord allows you to record custom ring tones. The full-color handset LCD screen comes with six preset images that you can assign to phone directory entries or set as background wall-paper; the included USB cable and image editor software also allow you to download custom images to your phone.

Speakerphones on both the main base and handset combine with headset compatibility to provide a number of hands-free communication options. Handset-to-handset call transfer allows you to route incoming calls to any handset registered to the system, while three-way conferencing lets you communicate with multiple parties at once. An intercom feature provides a way to communicate between handset locations, and a global page/handset function lets you speak with all handsets at once.

Additional features include flash, redial (last 10 numbers), hold, and mute. The NiMH battery provides up to eight hours of talk time and up to five days of standby, while a low-battery indicator lets you know when to return a handset to its charging cradle. A new message waiting indicator alerts you to any new voice mail messages (requires subscription to a fee-based service). Handset and speakerphone controls allow you to adjust volume levels. This package is backed with a one-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, fast shipping!, March 8, 2007

I had a bad experience with this same phone at the V-tech factory ware-house (online)... I ordered it through them it showed up broken, I returned it and the replacement was also broken. I returned it, and ordered it here and it came all in one piece & it's a great phone!! I love the ability to add handsets, and the fact that their is a speaker phone on the base.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed - useless numberpad!!, July 8, 2007
By Mark J. Scanlon (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this phone in mid 2005. There were a couple of main reasons why I spent the extra money on this phone: it was one of the only cordless phone sets I found that had (a) 5.8GHz (so as not to interfere with my WiFi) (b) speakerphone and keypad in base.

All seemed ok for a few months, but since then the numberpad on the handset has been very erratic - sometimes you have to press a number really hard or a number of times for it to register the number, other times you'll hardly touch it and it would dial that number two or three times. This would be mildly frustrating when dialling phone numbers, but when dealing with automatic phone menus, it is extremely frustrating and a challenge on my self control not to hurl the handset against the wall! Note - I do not use the phone that frequently (at most once or twice a day), so I refuse to believe this is a result of normal "wear and tear".

Final analysis - the quality of the calls is pretty decent, the base seems to work fine, but the handset's numberpad is subpar quality. Another complaint is that there is no link between the info on the handset and the base (e.g., the phonebooks are completely separate, so you have to enter a number twice to store it in both places)

2.0 out of 5 stars Lifeless phone, July 3, 2007
By Kelly Ferris (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bought this phone a few years ago. Thought it had a lot of nice features. Soon found out, it's not all it cracked up to be.
PRO: Loud ring, speaker phone base, good enough tones to choose from.
CON: Short battery life! After days of charging, after talking 1 hour, it needs to be charged again. Even after changing out the battery.
NOW: Phone won't even charge. It's on, the base works, but not the phone. Never buying a V-Tech again.
